I went to the ER in the middle of the night and everyone who helped me was wonderful. They were kind, they listened, and made me feel heard and safe. I’m really thankful for them. Especially Terry!

Family experiences at Gifford vary notably. Visitors consistently mention being greeted warmly and feeling their loved ones received genuine attention to detail and patient advocacy. However, other families report serious concerns: dismissive responses to medical symptoms, inadequate assessment of fall injuries, and troubling staff behavior toward LGBTQ+ patients. Today was my 3rd experience with the medical staff at Gifford Medical Center and every one of them has been the same. From the minute I walked into the building, I was greeted with a smile and welcomed with a warm, professional courtesy. The staff are kind and genuine in their interactions and answer questions clearly without seeming to be rushed. More importantly, when I have waited for my appointments, I hear laughter and banter among the staff that more truly tells the tale of what the overall atmosphere of the place is like. Certainly a huge asset to the community!

My elderly father, a Purple Heart Vietnam Veteran, fell and hit his head and was transported to Gifford by ambulance. He was extremely ill and the PA who was seeing him, Warren Fenner, told my mother, who can barely walk, that he wasn't "severe enough" for admission and that she should drive him home at 10pm on a road with no lighting. They could have been killed or killed someone else. They somehow got back into their home and my father immediately fell again and hit his head then had to crawl back into his bed. When he was brought back to Gifford the next day he was again discharged to my mother even after I had called to file a complaint. Mr. Fenner told me it "wasn't his responsibility" to make sure my father was safe overnight and that I should "get my butt on a plane" and fly out from California to "take care of it yourself." It is despicable that this is how Gifford treats elderly disabled patients and decorated veterans no less. My parents could have died or killed someone else driving home with no supports. No one should be treated the way that Gifford Health Care treats vulnerable patients. Ever.

I've had literal seizures labeled as no big deal and never once had them looked at. I lost my grandfather because they heard his accent and assumed he was making stuff up when he said something was wrong. And just recently my spouse was sent to the ER and the nurse had disgusting behavior upon founding out my spouse is queer. To anyone reading this, I urge you to seek somewhere else. They're abusive, dismissive, and heavily biased

If I could give Gifford Medical Center and their team of caregivers 10 stars I would. The levels of authentic care, communication, attention to detail, patient advocacy and more were beyond exceptional for my mother as she navigated a new diagnosis over the past couple of months. We brought her to their ER last month for one condition, and she was admitted and in a bed within 2 hours for another major finding -- which required an immediate major surgery (done onsite by a tremendously skilled and WARM, CARING surgeon), a 6-day stay, and now follow-up detail. Also of note: the cafeteria offerings are not your "garden variety" hospital food either - kudos to the chefs - and love the puzzles!! Gifford's primary care and mental health services are also excellent, based on other family experiences. Congrats to a tiny rural hospital for getting it so right - I'll take all of the above over a pristine, curated, over-designed and more "updated" health care facility any day; rather see the $ go to hiring amazing caregivers and staff. THANK YOU to the entire team for taking such good care of my people.
