Buyer beware, read the contract carefully! After my mother moved out of her apartment in The Gables and into assisted living, my family spent more than $25,000 paying for a vacant apartment until it was resold. The contract says that you must pay the FULL monthly service fee for a vacant apartment, just as if there is someone living there, eating three meals a day and using all the services. My mother moved out before November 1st and the apartment wasn’t sold until the following September. We paid almost $3k a month for the vacant space. Of course, we think some sort of minimum maintenance fee to keep the lawn mowed/roads plowed, heat on, would be fair. We think having to pay the full monthly service fee is unfair and greedy.
