My mother lived in this building, and the staff consistently demonstrated frustration with their duties and responsibilities. The second floor is a complete mess. The only time I ever saw this facility operating at what should be a standard level was when state administrators were visiting or when residents’ families were expected to show up. Most of the time, the staff seemed focused on avoiding their responsibilities, talking amongst themselves, or complaining to coworkers about how much they disliked their jobs. Unfortunately, my mother was not able to speak for herself. I also witnessed an aide named Enis treat residents poorly, as if it were somehow their choice to be there or to need assistance being cleaned and cared for. I’m sure my mother did not enjoy it either, but those responsibilities still needed to be handled with dignity and compassion. I brought my concerns to administration multiple times, as well as to Vanessa, and nothing was ever done. If you have to place your parent in a nursing home, Excel Care is not a facility I would trust.

The Five star CMS rating on your website needs to be updated to one star, the current CMS rating. The five star rating was for the Regency Grande which was a superb facility. Once sold the cleanliness, staffing and medical care completely declined. Having a loved one there for many years I can attest to the changes.

On Mother’s Day 2025, my grandmother died because this facility failed her when she needed care most. I was her primary point of contact, yet critical warning signs were minimized, dismissed, or never clearly communicated to me. On Monday of that week, her floor nurse, Dawn, told me my grandmother was refusing routine bloodwork but reassured me she was otherwise “fine.” On Friday, Dawn called again to say my grandmother was still refusing bloodwork, was not feeling well, and that the staff were concerned about a possible infection. She later called back to say the bloodwork had been obtained. When I visited that same day, my grandmother was extremely disoriented and clearly not herself. I raised my concerns with the aide on duty, but they were dismissed. On Mother’s Day morning, I received a call that her blood pressure and oxygen levels were dangerously low and she was being transferred to the hospital. There, I was told she had an untreated UTI—likely for weeks—and was septic. Her death was prolonged and painful and could have been prevented with timely care and proper oversight. What followed was just as heartbreaking. After her death, Director of Nursing Natalie admitted the facility had lost her bloodwork and that it was a “mistake” not to inform me sooner, then failed to attend our follow-up meeting or respond to emails. Administrator Maurice never returned my calls or offered condolences. Assistant administrator Monty stopped responding entirely. Social worker Vanessa provided no meaningful support. This facility showed a profound lack of compassion, accountability, and basic standards of care. I strongly urge others to think carefully before trusting this nursing home with their loved ones.

Making the decision to place my father in a nursing home was one of the most difficult and painful decisions I have ever had to make. Culturally, placing a parent in a care facility is often frowned upon, and I struggled deeply with guilt, even feeling like a bad daughter for having to make that choice. However, my father’s quality of care was declining, and with work and raising two children who depend on me, it became increasingly hard to provide him with the level of support he truly needed. When my father was still strong, he expressed his wishes clearly, that if his health declined, he wanted us to place him in a care facility where he could be properly cared for. After a year at Excel Dover, I can honestly say how grateful and at peace I feel knowing he is there. The care my father receives at Excel Dover has been nothing short of amazing. From administration to the caretakers, nurses, therapists, and cleaning staff, every single person treats my father with kindness, dignity, and respect. It is clear that he is genuinely valued, not just as a resident, but as a person. What brings me the greatest comfort is seeing my father well and happy. His quality of life has truly improved since being at Excel. Knowing that he is safe, respected, appreciated, and cared for with compassion means everything to me. I am incredibly grateful to the entire team at Excel Dover and to God for placing my father somewhere I trust completely. I have nothing negative to say about any staff member, they have all been wonderful. Thank you for the care, compassion, and dedication you provide to my father every day.

My Dad has had to spend time at Excelcare for rehabilitation two times after separate problems. Each time I have been very happy. The facility is not new, but they are on top of keeping the place CLEAN and functioning. I give the staff a lot of credit for being attentive to my Dads needs and staying on top of all needs. I highly recommend this facility!
