I would not recommend Envive Healthcare to anyone. I will say that there are a few good nurses and aides, as well as therapists that work there. I appreciate everyone of them. They are over worked and often work short staffed. The agency nurses that I had interactions with didn't seem to know anything about my family member. When I asked questions about him they almost all quickly said, 'I am agency, I don't know anything about him". I felt like they used that as an excuse to not take the time to know about the residents in their care. It was frustrating and made me wonder if they got or listened to report at shift change.<br>In the 33 days my family member was there, he had 5 incidents with injuries, one which sent him to ER by ambulance with a concussion and a large hematoma on his head. His neurologist is doing follow up CT scans for that reason. He suffered from bruises on his back, head and hip. He was treated aggressively by an aide and became afraid to call for help.<br>He has Parkinson's and dementia, he was supposed to have a special diet after getting the results of a swallowing study done while he was there, and to be observed with meals due to difficulty swallowing. I would often find him in his room at the farthest end of the hall from from the nurse's station or dinning room at meal time. His meal tray was often left on his bedside table out of his reach. I would find whole sandwiches, lettuce salad and other inappropriate food for his diagnosis on his tray. His meals were unappealing and he said by the time he got someone to answer his call light to move his bedside table near where he could reach it, it was cold and he had difficulty eating some of it. When I talked with staff about this, several times, they said he didn't want to go to the dining room and they couldn't make him. I understand that there are sometimes ridiculous rules they have to follow that at times can jeopardize the safety of residents, but they also have a responsibility to ensure residents get proper nutrition and are observed for choking if they are a high risk. He lost weight while being there.<br>I would find trash on the floor that had been there days before. There were no wash clothes or towels in his room. The clean bed linens were old and stained. He didn't get regular oral hygiene, his teeth were often caked with food. My son or I would brush them at times and they would bleed. I asked for lemon glycerin swabs and we would do his oral care when we came to visit him. We were there everyday.<br>Unfortunately nursing homes are known to be chronically understaffed, but this experience was one of the worst work environments I have seen. I am a retired nurse of 29 years.<br>Until those in charge start staffing nursing home facilities with enough competent employees that care about people, this problem will continue.<br>He was discharged from the hospital to Envive. I was not given time to do the proper research for the best facility to transfer him to. I was told one day before he had to be discharged that I needed to decide where he would go. I was given 2 choices by the social worker. Unfortunately I chose Envive.<br>If you have a loved one needing to be placed in a long term care facility, do the research, look at the reviews for the number of nursing staff and aides per shift as well as meals and over all care.
