I was one of the first to move into this facility. From the day of move in nothing but issues have accumulated. First water brakes in building. Then heating and cooling issues that never were resolved. Management has been none existent. The best managers Melissa and Amanda were run off because they questioned the upper management from New York. I moved from this area on the last day of July,2025. At that time I was told I would receive my refund on deposit. As of this writing September 20,2025. I have not received it. The new manager has not responded with updates as to when this will actually occur. I have been told that she is no longer the current manger as of Friday the 19th of Sept.. At this time I would not recommend to friends or family to consider moving into this facility.

Why is my review not being seen? I gave no one permission to change a word. This is the worst place we've ever lived at. RUN THE OTHER WAY. Melissa, the manager, has been disrespectful, rude and obnoxious. Evergy is charging us $444. We've received a shut-off notice. This is on a vacant unit that was not being used. We went there once or twice a week to pick up a few items because Connect55 would not allow us to have a buyout and we could not stand living there any longer than ten months. We made sure the thermostat was turned down low every time we left. Melissa would not listen to us about reporting faulty equipment.. We told her many times that sometimes we had heat, sometimes not. Now, adding insult to injury, she is refusing to help us pay this bill of $444 that was not our fault. It was totally the responsibility of Connect55. Melissa could control our thermostat remotely. We think that's where the problem lies, along with faulty equipment. In addition, we have not received our deposit and it been close to a month. When we reported a lot of these problems to the regional manager, Angie, she forbade us to critique Melissa and refused to let us submit a list of the contract violations. She was all about protecting the corporation and did nothing to protect us as residents. This experience has been truly traumatic for both of us. We felt discriminated against because we are an openly gay couple, old, and Latino

Peter Harakas

It's been over a month and we still have not received our deposit. Do yourself a favor don't move into this places it's riddle with problems games and lies
Run the other way.
No garbage disposal .
No microwave. Management is a nightmare.
Very cheap appliances. half a dozen or more maintenance workers came and went. The manager said that everyone loved her.I told her that plenty people, including myself, did not like her behavior. Lots of people fear her that's not love. She plays games--very immature l and lies constantly.Let me provide you a list of the gross negligence at Connect 55 Shawnee.
1. Serious code and safety violation. The fobs stopped working for the half dozen doors at the back of the building. The doors were kept open 24/7. They gave us keys six months later. Very irresponsible. I didn't feel safe, and many residents told me that they didn't feel safe either.
2. One of the main back doors is totally dirty and scuffed up, with a big gap that was never repaired, even though the manager said it had been repaired. In my opinion she's very dishonest. Tells you things are fixed when it's not so.
3. When I moved in ten months ago, the washing machine didn't work. Breach of contract. We didn't have a working washing for two to three months. I contacted Calamar Foundation, Connect 55's corporate office. They never had the decency to return my call.
4. I felt unwelcomed
5. We are an openly gay couple who have been together for over 49 years. I am also Latino, and we are both old. I felt discriminated against by Melissa, the manager, because we are openly gay, we are both old, and I stand up to her every time she is a rude, obnoxious, and abusive bully. I have turned her in several times to the elder abuse hotline. We intend to report this abusive behavior to HUD, the Better Business Bureau, and fair housing organizations. We both have been traumatized by this horrible experience. Evergy is charging us $444 for heating a vacant apartment. The manager can control the thermostat rWe are positive we did not leave the heat on we were very vigilant about t
I let the manager know several times that the thermostat went on and off sporadically. She just does not listen. Connect 55 has a legal responsibility to take care of the bill we did not incur. Faulty equipment is not our responsibility. Someone else could have easily left that on remotely.
She talks to us like an interrogation
Inquisition

6. Faulty heating and cooling system. At times the heat kicked on by itself and at times it just shut off. Same thing with the air conditioning. We told the manager many times. She told us the problem had been fixed. That is just not true.
7. No refundI. has been almost a month.
8. We feel that we have been discriminated against. We would like tfairness. treatment.

This is an e-mail we sent to Connect 55 Shawnee.

Dear Melissa:

You stated to Alfredo that we were responsible for checking our thermostat. I told you in my last email to you that we did check the thermostat every time we went to move things. We had to pay lots of money--over $6,000--since Connect 55 would not discuss a buyout with us and would not let us discuss the ways they broke the lease. Connect 55 needs to take responsibility for this and start talking to us civilly.

Alfredo turned you in to an elder abuse hotline yesterday. The way you talked to him is very inappropriate and disrespectful. The lies and the games are beyond the pale. We are adults here. We don't want to play games. You told him the last time he met with you that you were recording the conversation, then you told him that you were not recording it. We intend to turn you in to every regulatory agency that we can think of; e.g., Fair Housing Bureau and Better Business Bureau. We will contact our legal team tomorrow.

Angie Sawtelle, the Regional Manager of property owner Calamar Foundation, censoring us from presenting a list to Connect 55 of all the ways you broke the lease, violated the law. I suggest that Angie read Tenants' Bill of Rights. She operates from the assumptions.
