Alarming and Unsafe Assisted Living Facility in Brentwood – A Warning from a Concerned Visitor I recently visited a dear friend of mine who moved into American House Brentwood, and I must say, I left feeling deeply unsettled and worried for his safety. At 83 years old, I’ve seen a lot in my life, but the lack of decorum and security at this facility is truly appalling. During my brief visit, I witnessed two separate instances of violence that were handled with shocking indifference by the administration. The Incidents I Witnessed: • A Violent Outburst at Lunch: I saw an unkempt male resident become increasingly agitated at a table. He was difficult to understand, and the other residents clearly felt uncomfortable. When no staff arrived to assist him or de-escalate the situation, he grew furious and flipped the entire table over on its side. It was a miracle no one appeared to be seriously injured, yet only one staff member eventually responded. • Physical Assault in the Dining Room: Shortly after, a female resident—whom others told me is a "new addition" with a known history of violence—began screaming accusations at her tablemates. She stood up and swung her fists at the other women. While the chef (to his credit) stepped in to remove her, I was told this is a regular occurrence. Management’s Failure: What is most disturbing is the "head in the sand" approach from the administrators. I spoke with several residents who are living in fear. They shared that: 1. A new nurse who the residents said was really good quit after being physically attacked by this same female resident. Even after the police were called, the administration allowed the resident to stay. 2. Residents are afraid to complain to management because they fear being told to leave or being ignored and the management will stop buying them cigarettes and items from the store to bring to them. 3. The general consensus among the residents and even staff there is that this chaotic environment is "normal.", which is appalling and makes me so concerned for my friend’s welfare. We are in discussions now to move him to an assisted living facility that is staffed with enough, caring caregivers and administrators who do the job the residents are paying for out of their own savings for them to do. Not keep them in harms way. My Advice as an elderly, loving friend and visitor is to please, if you are considering this facility for a loved one, look elsewhere. These sweet seniors deserve to live their golden years in peace, not in a place where they have to duck for cover during lunch. Management’s refusal to address known physical threats is a gross negligence of their duty to protect those in their care.

I always think it’s a good sign when a company has happy and friendly staff, this place does. We love the staff and the Director. They know how to have fun and they care. There are some cosmetic improvements needed here and there, but 5 stars nevertheless. My father is happy, that’s evident!
