I’ve been bawling my eyes out!!
As I went towards the door a lady stopped me and said, "Can I help you?"
I said, "is this the leasing office?"
She snidely said, "Yes, but you can't go in there with a dog."
I said, "he's a service dog."
She said it doesn't matter.
I said, "according to federal law I can go in there." So she said, "Wait here, let me go get my manager."
I said , "Federal law says I don't have to wait here,". And I walked into the building behind her into the air conditioning and we waited by the door. (My dog was hot outside!)

The manager said, "he can be here but he can't be on the floor. You have to pick him up, it's our policy.”
I said, "no I don't"
She handed me an application, I broke down into tears and said, "no thanks, I don't want to live here if you treat people like that!" And left.

Federal Law allows a service dog to go anywhere people can go. And to not allow my service dog to walk on their floor??? That’s crazy!

I recounted this on NextDoor.com and several people said they had had bad experiences there.

I filed a complaint with the corporate office, the DOJ, contacted all the local service dog handler groups in New Braunfels in Facebook, next I go to the HUD complaint line (they subsidize this complex, the Attorney General in Austin, KENS TV, and maybe the BBB ( not sure if this applies to BBB). Someone also suggested Legal Aid to sue.
I don’t want anything and I certainly don’t want to live there! But I want them to stop from ever doing this again! It’s a SENIOR community! And they don’t know about service dogs???

The positive, God made it pretty clear that that's not an option I want!!

Manager and some neighbors just looking to cause trouble. Inconsistency in rules and parking, especially during the evening hours. Changes need to happen!
