After my 80 year old Mother had a really bad fall and was released from the hospital, she was sent to 2 different skilled nursing homes which were both horrible. With advice from a friend, we ended up at Devereux House in Marblehead which was a blessing. All of the Care Team members are very friendly and provide great care and support for their clients. Their physical, emotional and social needs are met in a safe environment. For example, Stacey, the Food Service Director has provided great Gluten Free meals for my Mom who has Celiac Disease. The entire staff is responsive to the needs of my Mother. I did not realize how important location is but, having Mom close by makes daily visits easy, which is huge! P.S. A big shout to the Administrative Staff for being so caring and attentive. You guys are the best! Thank you! Stephanie Maitland

I chose Devereux for Mom's short term rehab based in part on its proximity to home and also on the US News and Word Reports review, which I thought would be the most unbiased. Don't rely on that. Administration squanders the significant talent and dedication of some excellent nurses and care attendants by failing to have the systems in place to support consistent, beneficial care. Mom arrived with a fractured pelvis, and yet the PCAs were not informed of her injuries and so moved her in ways that caused her anguish. Pain killers prescribed in the hospital went unordered for two days once moved, and no one seemed to notice. Administration apologized and promised trainings, which I appreciated, but then failed to institute a system whereby new shifts would have basic information to provide humane care, such as morphine before moving her. The room itself was depressing. Bright lights shone over her face all night long, and often someone would enter her room and blare the TV news program instead of soothing her. When I asked how she was, I was lied to and told she was fine, only to learn she wasn't eating, and the person had no information about her pain management. Within a week I brought her to hospice, where she was treated with dignity until she died. I wish to thank the few staff members who showed Mom and I such compassion. You were the bright spots. The administration, however, should rethink its mission, and anyone considering sending a loved one to this facility should rethink their decision.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. My grandmother was transferred to Devereaux following a hip surgery at Salem Hospital. After a couple of weeks at Devereaux with minimal progress she began to deteriorate rapidly and essentially stopped eating. All the while the medical staff insisted that she was doing great, her weight was fine, and bloodwork was normal. After 2 more weeks of continued deterioration my father was forced to call 911 against fierce objections from the medical staff to get her out of Devereaux and back into the hospital ER where she was immediately found to have both severe pneumonia and an antibiotic resistant blood infection. As I am writing this review we are still not sure that she will survive this ordeal. Under no conditions should you ever bring your family member to Devereaux! The medical staff here are deeply incompetent, lazy, and don't care about the well-being of their patients. They put on a good show when you come to visit, but are an otherwise cold hearted and borderline criminal bunch that deserve to go to prison for their treatment of vulnerable seniors. STAY AWAY!

Staff is friendly, helpful and attentive. They are superb! The head nurse is very pleasant, thorough and "on top" of all the details. Very pleased that my husband was placed in Devereux for rehab.
