About Right at Home

Right at Home in Salem, Massachusetts provides home health and hospice care. The service model pairs families with caregivers who visit and support clients in their homes, with flexibility in service intensity and duration.

Family experiences with Right at Home show a sharp divide. Several families praised specific caregivers—describing them as kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in their family member's recovery and comfort. One family noted their 97-year-old mother received careful listening and thoughtful service coordination from the start. However, other families reported serious reliability and consistency problems, including frequent aide turnover (3–4 different caregivers in a few months), missed or failed appointments, and poor communication between schedulers and families—frustrations that left them questioning whether the agency could be counted on.

Right at Home holds a 4.7 out of 5 rating on Google across 55 reviews. The split between five-star and one-star reviews suggests that outcomes depend heavily on which caregiver is assigned and whether scheduling and communication systems work smoothly for your situation.

My family’s experience with Right at Home has been stressful and disappointing, largely due to staffing issues and poor communication. Over the course of just a few months, my parents went through 3–4 different home health aides, which made it difficult to establish consistency in their care. The biggest issue was communication between the schedulers and our family. There were several instances where workers did not show up as scheduled. We were told messages had been left, yet there was no record of any calls through voicemail or caller ID. To avoid further confusion, I specifically requested that all communication come directly through me as the family contact, but unfortunately this was not consistently followed, and another no-show occurred. There also appears to be an issue with turnover. While the managers I spoke with were apologetic, the conversations often lacked the level of sincerity and compassion you would expect from a company providing care for vulnerable individuals and their families. I do want to note that when the home health aides were present, they performed their jobs as expected. However, they were not in place long enough to develop a consistent relationship with my parents, which was unfortunate. My concerns are not with the aides themselves, but rather with the scheduling, communication, and overall coordination of care.

I have strongly urged SeniorCare to sever ties with Right at Home as it is a reflection on them. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB against Right at Home. You are by far the MOST unreliable, unprofessional and usuless home health agency I have ever dealt with. It's no wonder how you stay in business. Out of the 3-4 months I have been with this agency, they have shown up 4 times. They've either canceled, no showed or showed up an hour late. One star is generous.

When my mother needed extra care at the age of 97, I reached out to Right at Home with great trepidation from past experiences with home care groups. From the first "hello", I knew my mother would be in good hands. Diane kindly walked me through the menu of services and price points and we had a lovely meeting with an admissions nurse who listened carefully to my mother and what her wishes were, and what type of worker she was looking for. Right at Home absolutely DELIVERED! Over the course of 2+ years, my mom has had only a handful of days where there was a slight hiccup in the arrival time or in the demeanor of the staff that arrived each day. And when I called to ask for a change in worker, Jennifer listened, adjusted and got my mom just what she needed. The supervisory/administrative staff made frequent visits to my mom to check on her satisfaction with services and I had regular positive contact with Juan along the way, updating me on progress, changes and to answer any questions we had. A big shout-out to Anna, one of the kindest people I have had the privilege of meeting and for the sensitive and caring support she gave to my mom. Anna can't be beat. I wholeheartedly endorse Right at Home as being a 5 star company. Maureen Delaney

We contracted the services of Right at Home for my mom who was in need of some extra support following an illness. We had the services of Karen Z. for three-four months and we are so grateful for the excellent care and support that she provided. Karen is a kind, caring, and very attentive caregiver! My mom’s recovery has been remarkable and we are so pleased with the work Karen did with her that facilitated her return to independence. We recommend Karen without reservation. If our family is ever in need of services again, we will not hesitate to reach out to Right at Home!
