The place seemed great when I toured it and decided to sign a lease. The things I would like to have known beforehand: A selling point for me was internet included as part of the rent. Turns out it’s basically an unsecured WiFi system. The WiFi name and password that are on the bottom of the router will always be the name and password. Management has admin privileges for the internet and won’t make a strong password for you when you move in. Have a VPN ready to go if you want to live here and keep your data secure. I was told “nobody here would ever do that” in regard to my concern about hackers. The “air conditioning” system is the most ridiculous piece of work you will ever see. Even though the outside temp may not be that hot, an apartment can become stifling. Right now, for example it’s 60 degrees outside. I have the system in cooling mode, set to cool the place down to 69. Nice cold air flows for awhile. Then, you can hear the compressor shut down but the blower keeps running. A minute or two later, hot air flows. HOT AIR, just like in heating mode. The lights on the unit in the equipment closet indicate “normal operation, heat called for”. In cooling mode. Then, the compressor kicks in again and cold air will flow. This goes back and forth indefinitely. It never brings it down to 69, which would be very nice for sleeping. The unit is rated for 30,400 BTUH, which is close to double what a 900 square foot apartment needs, according to google. It seems to malfunction less the higher the set point. Summer is right around the corner. I can’t wait. Was told “that’s the way it’s supposed to work”. Fortunately the elevators work great because the handrails are splintery in the stairways. The construction phase here was troubled. The GC had many liens placed against them by subcontractors and it appears to have produced a shoddy property. The cupboards are cheap and beat up even though brand new. We are the first tenants in this unit. The cabinets with single doors were installed opening in the non-ergonomic direction. The wrong windows were installed so they are drafty because the locks won’t engage. The painters apparently didn’t have any drop cloths. The stairways are the worst, but there is splatter on our carpet and deck. The trash system is very good. The lighting is very good. The roof seems to be watertight. The mailroom and freight room are very good. Parking lot seems to be safe. If you like social activities, this place is very good for that.
