Where can I begin? When I first started with this company, I thought the name truly represented what it means to be a caregiver. We are compassionate caregivers — we care about our clients and we care about the work we do. It’s not just a job to us. We truly care about the people we support and always do our best.

As caregivers, we do our best to follow the company’s policies and procedures and provide care to the best of our ability. However, what concerns me is the well-being of the employees. Sometimes I feel like the focus is only on having someone present in the client’s home, without enough consideration for the caregivers’ well-being.

One thing that has always confused me is the purpose of a doctor’s note. If a doctor’s note explains that someone needs to be excused from work and the absence can be approved, I don’t understand why it becomes such an issue.

I also want to clarify something about my neck injury. I said that I was worried I might have injured or possibly broken my neck; I did not say that I had actually broken my neck. Just because someone may have misunderstood what I said does not mean I was wrong. I returned to work while I was still experiencing some pain because I cared about my clients and did not want to leave them without support. However, I also have limits, and my own health matters too.

I want to remind everyone that I am the same person who received two Rising Star recognitions within seven months. I have always worked hard, cared about my clients, and tried to do my job the right way. I do not believe that makes me a bad employee.

I also want to say this: being a leader means creating an environment where employees feel comfortable communicating. Being a boss does not mean looking down on people, and it does not mean communication should come across as aggressive. Leadership should include respect, understanding, and kindness.

I do appreciate the times my requests for days off were approved. I also understand my responsibility in this situation. I have always made my requests ahead of time and followed the company’s expectations, which is why my requests were accepted.

I left this company without notice because I had been feeling uncomfortable since the beginning. I continued to push through until I reached a point where I felt overwhelmed.

I don’t want to go into too many details, but I do want to thank the people who have shown me kindness. In this world, kindness is something we can give freely, and it means a lot.

I would especially like to thank Debbie, the owner of the company, for taking the time to teach me about Parkinson’s so I could better understand how to do my job correctly. I also want to thank Alyssa for always speaking to me with respect and dignity, and for helping me quickly whenever I needed note papers or assistance.

Thank you, Debbie Golden, for always showing me kindness and treating me with respect.

I want to recognize these people because even if one person has treated me poorly, it does not mean the entire company is bad. I appreciate the people who have shown care, respect, and kindness.

Stephanie W. is an awesome care giver and takes great care of my Dad. He enjoys having her around, asks for her specifically and I know that she truly CARES. She embodies the values W.E. C.A.R.E. and my family appreciates her immensely.
