About Avir at Pharr

Avir at Pharr is a skilled nursing and long-term care facility in Pharr, Texas, licensed for 123 residents. It serves patients recovering from surgery, injury, or chronic illness who need medical oversight and rehabilitation services.

Reviews paint a deeply divided picture. Families consistently report severe staffing shortages that affect daily care: call buttons going unanswered for extended periods, patients left in soiled conditions for hours, and missed appointments. Medication errors, including critical ones like withheld insulin, appear in multiple accounts. Communication failures are another common thread, with families unable to reach the facility by phone and receiving late or inaccurate updates about loved ones' medical events. Several reviewers noted staff members seemed disengaged or frustrated, describing them as unfriendly or defensive. A small number of families (two five-star and one four-star review) reported feeling their loved ones received genuine compassion and attentive care, though these accounts are vastly outnumbered by complaints about neglect and organizational dysfunction.

The facility's building and physical design are mentioned as attractive, but reviewers stress this does not offset operational gaps in nursing and care aide responsiveness. One family noted language barriers affecting pain management when Spanish-speaking staff predominate and the resident does not speak Spanish.

Avir at Pharr holds a 3.6 out of 5 Google rating based on 89 reviews. Prospective residents and families should carefully weigh the stark contrast between the minority of positive experiences and the preponderance of serious care and safety concerns documented by others.

Where do I begin. I have been in rehabilitation facilities through out the (RGV)Rio Grande Valley. There has been many lows and great highs in all of the facilities. It all begins with staff of people with great minds and even bigger hearts. I would have to say that my experience at Colonial Manor gave me the trust in humanity again. The utmost care, compassion, sympathy, and poise given by all staff of Colonial Manor. Most importantly was memorable feeling of hope. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I have send my mother for short term therapy.. for 4 times but this time around they really disappoint me on couple of areas... no communication between the nurses, therapist giving the wrong therapy on my mom. Leaving my mom unattended falling from the wheelchair, not showering or cleaning patients after every other day.. I wonder if nurses and administration oy shower them self every other day.. wearing the same freaking underwear for 3 days straight.. no hygiene on that facility.. but only good thing there good for is charging for the stay
