Coleman House: A 2Life Community

Coleman House is an income-based affordable housing community for adults age 62 and older in Newton, Massachusetts. The community is nestled on the JCC Greater Boston campus and offers one-bedroom apartments alongside the adjacent Opus Newton, a new living option for middle-income seniors with shared amenities including a café, cultural and learning spaces, and fitness areas.

The community underwent full renovation to meet current design and accessibility standards, with updates including energy-efficient appliances, new lighting, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and all-new cabinets and fixtures. Apartments feature large awning windows, quartz countertops, pull-out drawers, and full-size ranges and refrigerators. All renovated apartments meet 2Life's adaptable design standards and ADA compliance requirements.

Coleman House residents have access to an array of supports including lifelong learning programs with lectures, workshops, and hands-on classes; holiday celebrations and cultural events; a resident services coordinator; beautifully maintained common areas with wireless Internet access; the Grand Café with reasonably priced theme meals; and the CaringChoices program, which provides subsidized in-home services on a sliding-fee scale for residents who need additional support to remain in their apartments. The community also offers assistance with ride-share and transit options.

The location offers convenient access to Newton's amenities within minutes, including grocery stores, pharmacies, banking, and medical facilities. Residents can walk to the nearby JCC Greater Boston, Newton Community Farm, and the 55-acre Nahanton Park, which features trails, gardens, and a pond for fishing. Boston's dining, culture, and shopping are seven miles away.

Residents participate in community governance and programming decisions alongside management. The community emphasizes connection across residents from all backgrounds and cultures, with staff built on mutual respect and understanding.
