I knew my mother was in better hands at Carmelo Park than her previous big corporate care home. Any apprehension I had about the move was unfounded, even before my mother arrived. As I got to know the people dedicated to the simple and respectful care of their residents, I wish we'd chosen Carmelo Park from the start. As her son, I felt a difference too. At Carmelo Park, I was talking to people, not corporate representatives who had protocols and scripts. I trusted the communication and the people at Carmelo. Compared to the corporate care facility, my mother was as close to home as she could be at Carmelo Park. We were paying for a lot of services at the previous corporate care facility that my mother could not take advantage of. I knew that when we placed her, but I had false hope that she might be able to avail herself; that the activities she was missing out on might motivate her toward more mobility, interaction, and joy. Instead, she needed simple care. Carmelo spelled out their price without a lot of formulas and named their anticipated price increases in the contract. The other care facility ultimately saw my mother as an algorithm-driven source of profits. At her former corporate care facility I felt like I was one phone call or bill away from a big surprise, and not a good one. Instead, I got the surprise in person, a nearly 50% increase in her care costs. Additionally, I did not feel welcome. Courtesies were offered in passing, or I was talking with someone who was busy and seemed like they wanted to being doing something else. Carmelo Park Is a care facility that was perfect for my mother and gave me a sense of satisfaction that it was the best place for my mother.

My husband retired as a fire battalion chief after more than three decades of service, so he has encountered countless care facilities on medical calls over the course of his career. He and I walked into Carmelo Park and immediately knew that it would be a wonderful place for my mother. We had initially visited Songbird, their Salinas location, because we know two other families who have loved ones residing there, but felt that Carmelo Park was a better fit for mom. It has been nearly two years since she moved in and she has adjusted well. Sadly, I can tell you that there are other, larger, facilities on the Monterey Peninsula where staff members do not even know the names or medical conditions of the residents they serve. That is not the case with Carmelo Park. The staff treat my mom like family because it is run by a family, not a large corporation. From the activities, parties, snacks, and music, to the loving care she receives, we couldn't have asked for more regarding mom's care. The Carmelo Park staff is comprised of a group of truly special people who model grace and extraordinary patience on a daily basis. I can wholeheartedly recommend Carmelo Park and feel that their caring staff and administrators have been a blessing in all our lives, but especially to my mother who could no longer care for herself at home.

Brought Mom to Carmelo Park in Monterey after a year at their sister location, Songbird in Toro Park near Salinas. She has dementia with tendencies to wander, andd eventually became a handful for Songbird. After a year, Matt and Karie suggested she be moved to their Carmelo Park care home, as it has more staff and a coded entry. Mom has been at Carmelo for the past three years, under the attention and care of a warm and friendly staff, overseen by Jennifer who has decades of experience in elder care. Carmelo has recently undergone an interior renovation with a welcoming nautical theme, making the place lighter and quite charming. The cheerful staff provides daily activities, monthly birthday celebrations and a few parties throughout the year, which family and friends are also invited to (now that Covid has calmed down). Matt and Karie are intimately involved with their care home business and have been very helpful to my sister and I these past few years; a nice break from the invisible leadership that many large corporate entities seem to have these days. I highly recommend Carmelo Park, and their other Salinas location Songbird, as a peace of mind location for your loved one(s).

Carmelo Park helped us with our beloved family member for a few years. Their staff was always very attentive and friendly. It’s very homelike and smaller for good reasons! Thanks to Matt and his family and staff we felt safe with our loved one.

I have been recommending this exceptional care home to families of seniors and the elderly who can no longer reside at home since 2014 when the Mazerik family purchased Carmelo Park Assisted Living. The trained, reliable and caring staff combined with the hands-on involvement of family members operating and managing Carmelo Park, you can rest easy and be assured that your loved one will be safe and well cared for.
