During a very trying time in our family, we found the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living to be paragons of integrity and empathy. My parents had been left stranded by the Bradford of Bloomfield, after paying $6K in community fees in addition to $10K for monthly fees. They had barely resided there for a week when my mother was denied readmittance unless my father agreed to place her on hospice. At this difficult time, I searched around desperately trying to find a suitable replacement for my parents’ care. We landed on Brookdale as the right place, but unfortunately at the wrong time. My mother had been temporarily moved to a Rehab facility and was slated to move to the Brookdale in 3 weeks after receiving physical therapy treatment. Unfortunately, we lost my dear mother due to gross incompetence and negligence there. What followed in the authentic encounters we had with the staff at the Brookdale Senior Living, especially those with Jeffrey Olivaras were in stark contrast with all the other senior care facilities and their lack of accountability and genuine care for seniors. Not only did Jeffrey spend time consoling my dear father at the loss of his wife but bent over backwards to offer to change the contract and room offering with no financial penalty due to the change in circumstances. And then he went even further when we decided that my father would temporarily reside at home with us. He refunded the non-refundable deposit and called the contract null and void. By these gracious acts of kindness, Brookdale and Jeffrey won our respect and despite our previously jaded perspectives of senior care facilities as preying on vulnerable seniors. If my father or any other family member or friend will need a senior care facility in the future, we know that we’ll be pointing them to the Brookdale of Troy.
