Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center is a specialized skilled nursing facility located in Western North Carolina, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act long term care regulations. The facility serves adults with chronic and complex medical conditions that coexist with neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive disorders, or severe and persistent mental illness.

The center provides 24-hour skilled nursing care and specialized support for residents whose health and physical status require daily nursing care and assistance with activities of daily living. The facility offers specialized programming for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as for individuals with neurocognitive disorders related to Alzheimer's disease and dementia whose behavioral health needs exceed what is available in community-based settings.

Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center also serves adults with severe and persistent mental illness who no longer require acute psychiatric care but whose behavioral health support needs cannot be met in alternative skilled nursing settings. The facility accepts referrals for individuals whose clinical treatment needs meet the skilled nursing facility level of care and for whom no appropriate community-based programs are available.

A Human Rights Committee composed of five members knowledgeable about mental health and nursing care issues provides additional safeguards for protecting the human, civil, legal, and treatment rights of residents. The Black Mountain Center Foundation, established in 1995, works to enhance the quality of life for persons at the facility. A Volunteer Services Department coordinates community support and involvement to benefit residents.
