My mom Shirley came to Belknap after an injury for rehab and stayed until a bed opened up in Boscowen. The staff has been wonderful. Everyone is friendly and professional. The NP and MD are very proactive. I hope her next move is as pleasant as is was here

Unfortunately after promising my mother I would NEVER place her in a nursing home, she fell ill and required 24 hour care and assistance I could not provide. I did research and found BCNH to supposedly be the best locally. I visited my mother regularly!!! Anywhere from 3 to 6 times a week. With that said, I saw first hand how she was cared for.....I would voice my concerns with the nurses in charge, the social worker, the director of BCNH. I would attend every care plan meeting and voice concerns, during these meetings, they would seem concerned and make empty promises to investigate and address concerns. Unfortunately, the same problems continued day after day, week after week, year after year. EVERYTHING, ANYTHING was a consistent battle!!! Their answer was to move my mother out from the facility!!! REALLY!!! That wasn’t the answer!! That would of only confused an elderly woman who was settled in her living space. The answer would of been to fix the the concerns I brought to their attention. What they wanted was ME to be gone because of the strong advocate I was being for my mother. My mother was an easy LOVING, HAPPY woman. She cleaned her own room, made her own bed, walked herself to and from the dining room, fed herself. They had it easy to have her for a resident. As time passed, the disease progressed and the time came to bring hospice on board. Even then the nurses at BCNH continued to make the right decisions a battle. All I wanted was to make my mother comfortable. Getting them to give her the morphine she needed was like asking them to give me a million dollars. She was allowed to have a dose every hour....I would go visit before work and find out her last dose was 16 hours ... The last care plan meeting I went to, I informed them when the time came, I wanted to be notified BEFORE the funeral home came to pick her up so I could spend time with her before cremation. The head nurse of east wing said they would have it no other way. Yet another EMPTY promise and proof they say what you want to hear. I knew my mother only had a few days left. I would visit 2 to 3 times a day. I went in that morning, she was laying there with labored breathing, I slid over blankets to rub her hands and saw how blue her fingers were. The 2 nurses came in, spoke a few words to each other about her breathing and gave her a dose of morphine and stepped out. They came back about 30 minutes later and gave her another dose, and again another shortly after. IMAGINE THAT!!!! THREE DOSES 1 1/2 HOURS BEFORE SHE DIES. BUT IT WAS LIKE PULLING TEETH WHEN SHE REALLY NEEDED IT!!!!!! My point to this ending....because I stopped in before work that morning, my mother had me hugging her, kissing her, telling her how much I loved her while she took her last breath. SHE DIDNT DIE ALONE........ Neither one of the nurses or the HEAD NURSE of east wing gave my mother the courtesy to call me to inform me she only had a few hours left as promised!!! That is the biggest disrespect they paid to such a loving caring woman who did no wrong to any of them. My hope, when they get old and helpless, they get the same care they give to these elderly residents.... Word of advise, if you ever have to place a loved one in ANY facility, be there regularly.,be their eyes, their voice ... BE THEIR LOVING ADVOCATE ♥️
