(VERY DETAILED PLEASE READ ALL!!!!!!) I’m gonna start from the top. I had to carry some of this nice gentleman’s luggage. My nana was dropping this gentleman off, and I was there to help. As soon as I pulled in I saw that this place was worn down. I thought nothing of it and continued helping. I had to carry 3 of the luggage with broken wheels, my nana put two on the gentleman wheelchair to make more space. Not one person offered to help me. I walked down the hall where he was assigned. While I was walking, I saw four young nurses with snacks in hand and laughing, while 2 guests in wheelchairs were tip toeing around. Not one offered to help push them I their wheelchairs. Later down the hall, I was behind my nana and saw a huge dead COCKROACH on the floor, a guest had stepped on it BAREFOOT earlier, which I also saw. Speaking of barefoot mostly all of the guest had no shoes or socks. Outrageous. We got to another section, I immediately saw a barefoot man with stained clothes talking to a staff member, he was ignores the whole time. I continue walking behind my nana to the gentleman’s room. Finally! A staff member took one of the luggage from my hands. When we got to the room there was another guest cold, barefoot. He was very obviously cold, the staff tried to get him to put his shoes on but he couldn’t sit up by himself. She brushed it off, then while she’s barely helping! At getting the gentleman we were taking to this facility in his bed. She asked questions about his memory while the guest next to her was asking for a blanket when he was obviously very cold. She tosses! Not hands it to him, but tosses! A thin sheet on him. The man then tries to get it to cover his body, using his teeth and feet. Then down the hall i hear some one screaming, door wide, no one rushing to help. Speaking of door wide, almost all the guests had their door wide open for everyone to see their business. Overall TERRIBLE experience. I feel bad for everyone there but I’m glad none of my family is going through that. NOTHING should go through that.

Balanced Healthcare is a large, well-established facility with a unique psychiatric resident population. As someone who is relatively new here, I have come to appreciate the family-oriented atmosphere among the staff. While the facility could benefit from some updates and improvements, the compassion, dedication, and sense of community are felt throughout the building. The care and support provided by the team create a welcoming environment for both residents and employees.

Nursing homes are the last refuge of indigent elderly Americans, whose families cannot care for them. Thank the Medicare and Social Security safety net that keeps these poor souls off the streets. After being widowed, my cousin became one of those lost men, residing in 4 different nursing homes in the last years of his life. He spent his last 9 months at Balanced Healthcare, where he received compassionate care for severe depression, and eventually for rapidly progressive neurologic deterioration. I appreciated the sincere efforts of his inpatient team, particularly the weekly psych nursing visits he enjoyed, and the expert pain management service. He was followed closely by the nutrition team, as he lost the ability to swallow safely. Balanced facilitated percutaneous feeding tube placement. Communication with me (his New England-based health care proxy) was generally consistent, including notification of major clinical changes. I found the administrative team very responsive to my concerns over time, as my cousin's speech and mobility status deteriorated. Like any long-term care facility, staffing is never enough, but I was pleased with the efforts the team made to help my cousin communicate with me by phone. My last meaningful conversation with him was thanks to a wonderful nurse who recognized a rare lucid moment, and called me late on Thanksgiving night. After my cousin's death (at Hospice), the director and social work service went above and beyond to collect and mail my cousin's art book and devices to me.

My sister has been a resident at Balanced Healthcare for over a year now and my 11th visit with her yesterday was the best to date. After 4 years of bouncing back and forth from assisted living and lengthy psychiatric hospitalizations, her declining health finally led her to an acute care facility which recommended her to Balanced Healthcare. I write this review as a thank you to Administrator Dan and the key members of his dedicated staff. Yes, the residents are highly challenged, the building and interior are dated and stark and maintenance requests are sometimes necessary, but all is safe and clean. And I understand theft is unfortunately a common occurrence in every type of nursing home. Even so, from the start, I immediately sensed a camaraderie--mutual trust, loyalty and good-natured friendship---among the workers, who with intensive focus, earnestly tend to the residents and even welcome me, a visiting family member, as part of the care team. I notice the reviews for this facility range to the extremes, and it is possible to view the experience either way, depending on the viewer. In my case, I am so grateful for the tolerant, patient and persistently kind attitudes of the faithful staff as they navigate the most challenging problems that plague human beings. In the short 5 hour period of my recent visit, 6 services presented themselves in my sister’s room: housekeeping, laundry, meal delivery, mail delivery, head nursing staff, and head housekeeping staff. I’m also utterly impressed and grateful for the intimate and detailed knowledge they all possess of my sister’s personal challenges, and with LOVE. In my opinion, these workers are the star players of our society and they will be the ones highly esteemed and rewarded when all is said and done. It’s an honor to feel a part of their high calling. Thank You, Balanced Healthcare!

My husband is here and I had issues that has been taken care of. I had a few people that are rude. Mainly upper management. I am very thankful for the nurses that have taken care of my husband. Not the cleanest place . The main reason I wanted to write this review was because we went to the rec center area to watch a movie and my husband did not to watch Tyler Perry. So we left. The two doors to the hallway were shut and locked. There was four of us that tried the button on side wall to open it and nothing so I went and asked a lady that had the remote for the TV in the rec room and she was nasty and very rude to me. She said well all you have to do is push the green button. I responded we did. She gets up and goes and does it and of course it worked. The aide responded well apparently you didn't and rolled her eyes. Now that was uncalled for and thought if she is like this then she does not need to be around anyone. I held my tongue but this is ridiculous.
