I have not personally experienced a Rehab Facility with such excellence in quite a long time. I came to visit a relative that had just been transferred to ARK REHAB CENTER, the day before. While there, one of the many things I saw was how clean and brightly lit and orderly this place was. When I went into the atrium there were a couple of patients that were being fed their lunch. I noted how clean they were and attended to, by the aides. I met several of the staff either on the phone or in person. My first experience was a phone call I received form Francine (11-7) Nurse to inform me my cousin was transferred to their facility earlier that day. Maureen, (The wound Nurse) Jenn P. (Social Worker) Vanessa (Aide) Portia (Charge/Med Nurse) Melissa (Physical Therapist) These individuals were professional in so many ways. I noticed how well the staff took excellent care of my Cousins roommate, who was an elderly man, alert, but a very quiet. He was a sweetie. On my first visit, I asked to speak to the Social Worker, (Jenn P.) she came right away. We spoke about my cousin's status and what was the intended goal was after his recovery. The second day I visited I came during the evening (3-11) having missed the opportunity to do a conference call with Jenn P. that I scheduled for the next day so my Mother, (his Aunt) could speak to her about his status for herself. Jenn P. called me, after hours, so I got a chance to speak with her. I was truly impressed that she called me on her time off. She not only called me but had spoken to his daughter as well, therefore keeping everyone involved, informed regarding his situation. WHO does this? These days No one seems to care. Not like this! And Yet...This young lady went above and beyond duty. I observed an Activities staff member (don't remember his name) invite my relative to participate in any activies they may have during his stay, making him aware of what they do during that time. Maureen (Wound Nurse)while heading down the hall, on her way home, I asked for a bandage to cover an opened wound, because I was taking him outside for some fresh air. She turned around, took us to her office and dressed his wound, giving us extra baggages to cover and stick so they'd last a while. She made no excuses but helped us off the clock! Melissa, (Physical Therapist) I have never witnessed physical therapy being offered and done after a 7-3 shift. But here she was, he had dismissed his therapy from earlier in the day and she came to do the PT during this time. She got him to participate in doing some of his therapy and gave him instructions for him to be able to continue at his leisure. She explained to him how necessary it was for his recovery. He gave her an extremely hard time, but she was tough and got him to do them. Excellent 👌🏾!!! Vanessa, (Aide) this young lady deserved a raise as well as a medal. My cousin who was less than cooperative rang his buzzer so many times it was annoying. She came for the first three times offered to meet any need he had that she could help him with while she was there. As soon as she left to assist another patient, he was ringing the buzzer. She patiently explained to him that she has other patients to attend to but would get to him as soon as she could, provided it wasn't an emergency. She cleaned up his space assisted him to the bathroom, made up his bed and cleaned his area. He is an alert person and knows exactly what he is doing. Portia (Charge/Meds Nurse) She came into the room, introduced herself and tended to my cousin. He was giving everyone a hard time with a demeanor that was bossy and disrespectful. She let him know that everyone was there to help him, and if they were to succeed in his recovery they needed to respect one another. I was impressed with how she spoke to him and wasn't provoked by his passive aggressive behavior. Overall, I went into detail about what I witnessed, because I never got the feeling these people were being disengenuois. That at NO time they were performing for me because I was a family member. Excellence! 👌🏾
