My Mother-in-law lived in the independent Villa apartments. She passed suddenly 2 days ago. We have 100 logistical things to handle on top of grieving her loss. We live only a few miles from the Villa , in an attempt to save my husband some hard moments of handling her clothing and smaller items I made a couple trips there today in between meetings. My last trip today I was abruptly stopped and scolded by Lipa- the front desk attendant. Adamantly accusing me of abandoning a shopping cart on the 2nd floor. She humiliated me in front of residents and other family members.1st it makes no sense. I’m bringing things out, not in. The carts are on the 1st floor where we park. 2nd, I’m an able bodied adult who cares deeply for our aging population, and would NEVER be as lazy as to have them go without a tool they need to get their items/groceries to and from. 3rd, when I came down from the apartment after this encounter, she continued to tell me I left the cart and a resident had to bring it down . It’s completely ridiculous, if you really feel I broke the cart law, look at your video footage! The last thing a grieving family need is to be treated that way. I felt like I was trespassing in a sense , and we still have much to do there. My Mother-in-law enjoyed living there, but did complain that some of the staff were abrupt and often came into her apartment without calling or notifying, just walked in. Again, she lived independently, not in assisted. I would consider this long rant of mine , before choosing a home for your aging family members.

My wife Deb and I have been involved with Augustana for about a year. It began last year when Deb’s mother Barb moved to her Villa apartment on the third floor and has continued this year when my mother Bea moved to her Villa apartment on the first floor.

Deb and I have personally spent a lot of time at the Villa's the last 12 months and I have to mention that all of the Villa staff have been super helpful and make a wonderful place for both of our Mother's to live.

Barb enjoys her independent living at the Villa and looks forward to the evening meal served by the Villa staff. She tells us that the meals are awesome and the housekeeping services have been a great help to her too. Bea's 100th birthday was in February and is not as active as Barb; however, as her needs increase, Augustana will be able to see that those needs are met.

Barb, Bea, Deb and I highly recommend Augustana.

Our family has been involved with Augustana family since the 1970’s. It all began when my dad’s mother Gunhild moved to the Augustana community. Later my mother’s mother Hattie moved to Augustana. During the many years that followed my mother would visit both grandmothers 6 days a week and serve coffee and fresh baked cookies. Both grandmothers thoroughly enjoyed their time at Augustana until their passing.

Some years later mother’s aunt Anita and cousin Mary Joy, joined the Augustana family. A few years ago, mother’s nephew Darrell joined the Augustana family.

Two years ago, my mother made the decision to move to the Augustana Villa. Given her many years of experience with Augustana, this was a very easy decision for her to make. In fact, for the several years preceding the move, mother would always tell me that when the time came, she wanted to live at Augustana.

I have personally spent a lot of time at the Augustana Villa as well as the Augustana Health Care and Rehabilitation. I have to say that it is the staff that makes this such a wonderful place to live.

Mother enjoys her independent living at the Villa. She makes her own breakfast (eggs every day) and then takes advantage of the evening meal served by the Villa staff. She often tells me that she has never had a meal that she didn’t like. Mother uses the housekeeping services as needed.

During this Covid epidemic the Villa staff provided many services to make life easier for their residents. They include hallway entertainment, snack cart deliveries, video conference with family, just to name a few. The Villa made sure that every resident and employee had the opportunity to be vaccinated. Mother would tell me every day how well the Villa was protecting her and others through the pandemic.

As mother’s needs may increase, Augustana is ready, willing and able to see that those needs are met.

It is without question that I highly recommend Augustana.

My mom, Carol Wagner, moved into the Villas about 2 years ago. She has advanced Parkinson’s disease and had been living in South Dakota. After visiting many facilities, I chose Augustana for my mom. I am a nurse and wanted excellent medical care for my mom. My mom is very social and wanted a vibrant, active place to live. Augustana has exceeded both of our desires. The staff is wonderful! They listen and respond quickly to any problems or concerns. The medical care is outstanding. My mom is thriving at Augustana. She is happy and active. The sense of community, we felt when visiting Augustana, was one of the reasons I chose Augustana for my mom’s new home. Now that she is part of that community, we couldn’t be happier with our choice.
