About Amedisys Hospice Care, an Adventa Company

Amedisys Hospice Care in Elizabethton, Tennessee provides specialized hospice care for people with terminal illnesses no longer responding to medical treatment. Rather than pursuing curative measures, the care focuses on pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and assistance for families and caregivers.

The hospice team offers comprehensive services including nursing care, hospice aides for activities of daily living, medication management, social work services, and spiritual care through chaplains. The team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and works with patients and primary caregivers to develop personalized care plans based on individual needs and goals. Hospice aides provide in-home help with self-care and hygiene, while nurses visit regularly to assess the patient's condition and coordinate with the broader care team.

Families receive substantial support through trained volunteers offering companionship and practical assistance, social workers providing emotional and end-of-life planning counseling, and chaplains offering spiritual care. After a loved one's death, families can access up to one year of bereavement support, including both virtual and in-person counseling sessions and support groups led by trained bereavement counselors.

The hospice serves multiple counties including Carter, Hancock, Hawkins, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Union counties, among others in the region. Amedisys also participates in the We Honor Veterans program to address veterans' unique end-of-life care needs, and offers specialized support for patients with dementia and end-stage heart failure.

Hospice costs are typically 100% covered by Medicare Part A, Medicaid in most states, and many private or managed care insurance plans, with all medications, equipment, and supplies related to the terminal illness covered.

Terrible place. My father in law left the hospital last Friday with a referral for them to come out to do his IV antibiotics and change is midline dressing. They have never showed up referrals are always wrong/ declined. Hung up on 6 times out of the 12 times I have called(Jc location) before they told me the elizabethton location is the one I need. Zero help from them and if it was not for me pushing the antibiotics and calling everyone I can to ask questions he would be dead or back In the ICU. Please if you get a referral for this place ask for a different company. This place is the worst and I will be filing a formal complaint.

So it turns out that they deleted my first review. Amedisys was AWFUL to work with. My father was on hospice for 3 days before he passed away. The day he passed, the nurse who responded I asked what could’ve caused his stroke and she held up a pill bottle saying it prevented blood clots and he should’ve been taking it. My cousin and I both recorded each and every medicine that went into my father’s body, so the nurse just wanted to be condescending during a difficult time for whatever reason. Then, she said that she had to clean his body for the coroner and I asked her if I should step out of the room and she stated with “well I was hoping to have some help” she wanted me, his DAUGHTER to help undress and clean him. Maybe be better prepared and bring another nurse? Also, when his stroke happened I called to ask to switch him from full code to a DNR, that was my dad’s wishes. It could’ve been easily verified by multiple witnesses, not only that but I was listed on his LIVING WILL to make ANY AND ALL medical decisions on his behalf if he were ever in a state to not be able to verbalize his needs. Terrible company, terrible nurses, and for them to work in hospice is comical because there was little to no empathy.

Our experience with amedisys was excellent from the time my dad got released from the hospital to come home until he took his last breath. The team was amazing. I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking for caring and attentive care. I would like to believe my dad didn’t suffer with the help of amedisys. We actually used the home health too and they were very good also.

They provided the most horrible service for my fiance's mother. They wouldn't even provide basics, such as gloves and wipes. This was the worst service of a hospice company ever
