Absolutely unacceptable care. We placed my mother-in-law at Allegiant Wellness and Rehab after her stroke expecting compassion, professionalism, and basic human dignity. Instead, what she experienced was neglect. Whether patients can physically use the restroom or not, staff put them in diapers and tell them to soil themselves so they can “clean them up later.” My mother-in-law is able to get herself from the bed to the wheelchair but cannot safely get herself to the bathroom alone. She called for assistance for over three hours and was ignored. When staff finally responded, they had an attitude and treated her like an inconvenience. To make matters worse, her medication was left sitting on her nightstand and she was basically told to “figure it out herself.” This is a stroke patient in rehab — someone who is supposed to be receiving care and support, not being abandoned to manage medications alone. The lack of compassion and urgency from parts of the nursing staff was shocking. Several interactions felt argumentative and dismissive rather than caring or supportive. No family should feel like their loved one is a burden while recovering from a serious medical event. The food provided was also extremely poor quality and appeared to lack proper nutrition for rehabilitation patients who need strength and recovery support. Within 24 hours, we made the decision to remove her from the facility and return her to the hospital because we no longer felt she was safe receiving care there. No family should have to worry whether their loved one is being treated with dignity and basic care. We are beyond disappointed and heartbroken by the lack of compassion and attention shown here
