My Dad was in there for therapy, and didn't even make it 3 full days, before he had to go back to the hospital. He ended up with a UTI, because they didn't check his catheter, my Mom even told them twice it needed checked. He had a little bit of problems with his kidneys, the Dr. at the hospital said that with the urine not draining, it made his kidneys worse. Never send your loved ones to this nursing home.

My father nearly lost his life due to the medical negligence that occurred during his stay at Accolade of Savoy.

My father spent almost a year at Accolade of Savoy, primarily in the dementia care unit. After approximately six months, he required placement of a G-tube.

During this period, he was transferred to the second floor after reportedly not wanting to participate in dementia care activities. In retrospect, this decline in participation coincided with the time the G-tube was likely already dislodged, and he was likely becoming progressively ill, fatigued, and medically unstable. While on the second floor, staff failed to recognize that the G-tube was not correctly positioned. As a result, tube feeds and medications were delivered into his colon instead of his stomach.

This led to severe malnutrition and life-threatening complications, including sepsis, pneumonia, and metabolic encephalopathy. He also has diabetes, and due to improper delivery of his medications via the G-tube, his blood sugar levels became dangerously uncontrolled and life-threatening.

He required transfer to Carle ER in critical condition, where he underwent multiple procedures and spent nearly a month hospitalized receiving intensive treatment to stabilize his condition. Hospital staff expressed concern about the severity of decline that occurred in a skilled nursing facility.

Following my report, the Illinois Department of Public Health investigated and issued a Level 1 determination for improper nursing care.

Following discharge, I made the decision that he would not return to Accolade of Savoy due to serious concerns about the level of care and what I believe to be severe neglect. He has since been placed in a different facility where he is receiving more appropriate care. While he has improved, he has not returned to his prior baseline, which I believe is due to the medical negligence that occurred during his stay at Accolade of Savoy.

Based on this deeply traumatic and distressing experience, I cannot recommend Accolade of Savoy.

This nursing home has been a wonderful place for our loved one living with dementia. The caregivers are kind, patient, and truly understand how to provide thoughtful, individualized support. The atmosphere feels calm and welcoming, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure residents are safe, engaged, and treated with dignity. We feel reassured knowing our family member is in such compassionate and capable hands.
