I have a stage 4 bedsore(ulcer). I was on a wound vac. Home health comes because of that. When this first started, I was told that I would have a nurse come three times a week to change out my dressing. I wasn’t told that it would be a different nurse each time. Some knew how to bridge it as requested by the doctor and some didn’t. I knew more about caring for my wound than they did and would tell them how the doctor treated it but most of the nurses would not listen so it wasn’t done right. Had I been able to see my backside, I could’ve tended to it myself but I couldn’t see it because it is on my sacrum. I ended up with a very bad infection that made its way into my bone. Infection that could have been prevented had the nurses listened to me. I have moved to secondary healing now. The doctor puts in the order for my care and dressings needed each week. I don’t get the supply’s the nurses need to change me out when they come so they make do with what I have on hand. Lately, it seems like they are sending nurses that have attitudes and are in a rush. This is my life in their hands and I am being treated like I am a burden. I understand that I am not a nurse or doctor but I know my body. I feel like I am brushed off when I try to push for proper treatment and proper supplies so that my wound heals correctly. I am still going the process but today was the last straw and is why I am writing this. I have tried to get in contact with the higher ups many times and never get a response. I have left 3 messages with my so called case manager and haven’t seen or heard from her in two months. Today the nurse came 20 minutes early. I asked her to please give me 5 minutes. Her response was, let’s just get this done real quick. I responded with, You are early and you can’t give me 5 minutes? Then she said, Well, I can just leave. I said, ok thank you. She left, slammed my door, didn’t shut my porch door and sped out of here. She was very unprofessional and had attitude so at that point, I didn’t want her touching me. I am not a burden, I am a patient! I can’t say the company is horrible but they do have some horrible people working for them. I understand things happen but when lives are in your hands, you have to do better. They are dealing with people who are going through very difficult times in their lives and to not be understanding of that, to not get the supplies sent in time, and to not take the time to listen to the patient, is unacceptable, especially when patients lives are at stake. It’s just not right. I think some retraining of the staff and better communication would go a long way in helping the company to care for its patients professionally.
