Over the last 9 years, our hospice team has had several patients who were residents at Abiding Joy Care Home, and we’ve consistently been impressed by the wonderful care they provide. The owners, Dave & Karen, live in the home and truly treat each resident like family. It’s also incredibly rare, and such a gift, to have an RN owner like Karen living in the home and available 24/7 to provide nursing care. They create a peaceful, loving environment, and I highly recommend Abiding Joy Care Home to anyone looking for compassionate, family-style care.

On a Friday afternoon at the hospital, we were surprisingly told that we needed to place my father into a hospice care center and that we needed to find a place by Monday. But sometimes in life you get lucky, and we definitely did when a residency at the Abiding Joy Senior Care Home opened up that same weekend.<br><br>We had a great experience at “The Joy House” (our nickname for the place) and with the owners/caregivers Karen and Dave (who my Dad jokingly referred to as “Boss”). My dad was happy in his last weeks. Karen and Dave had the most accommodating visitor policy we could have imagined, allowing us to arrive whenever we wanted and stay as long as we cared to. Even better, we were given access to their swimming pool, so the grandkids and great grandkids were able to come over and swim while my dad watched. (Who has ever heard of this perk at a hospice care center?!)<br><br>The personal attention he received was exemplary since he needed a higher level of care than most (an Alzheimer’s patient that required personal feeding of soft foods). We frequently got update calls from Karen informing us of his good days, his bad days, changes in his condition, and foreshadowing what the future held, to the best of her knowledge. This allowed family that was out of town to plan trips to see my dad and spend time with him at the end of his life, while he was still in a state where he could interact with them and enjoy the visit. His time at “The Joy House” was a blessing to our family! Karen and Dave treated my dad like family, with round-the-clock medical care, but also with friendship and emotional support.<br><br>We can’t recommend the Abiding Joy Senior Care Home highly enough. They deserve the highest rating, the most stars, and - as awkward as it may sound when talking about a hospice care center - they are the first place we will call in the future should another family member require this level of care. Karen and Dave are simply the best!

Our Dad was there for the final two weeks of his life. Great place. Staff are so committed to care for those on hospice. Dad loved them. Highly recommend them to others looking for kind and person-centered hospice care.

One star because they did take good care of my husband, however they treated me terribly. They spoke rudely to me, restricted my access to when I could see him, and did not allow me to be any part of his care. I experienced severe anxiety when I would pull up to visit my husband, wondering what kind of “new rule”they would tell me. He is now at an excellent facility, where I am allowed to be part of his care, eat dinner with him daily and the staff treats both of us like family. My husband has been at many different places for respite and my reviews are mostly 4 to 5 stars. I regret that I moved my husband lived at Abiding Joy and I do not recommend this place.
