Yellow Retirement Communities operates independent living apartments across multiple locations in Indiana, including Fort Wayne, Kendallville, Warsaw, and Waynedale. The community serves older adults seeking rental housing with on-site maintenance and management support.
Residents and their families consistently praise the responsiveness of maintenance and apartment staff when repairs are needed. One family noted that a maintenance technician arrived within hours of an air-conditioning call and completed the fix the same evening. Long-term residents highlight friendly, helpful staff and comfortable, well-maintained living spaces. Several families mention feeling welcomed during move-in and experiencing a genuine sense of home and safety at the community.
Outdoor grounds maintenance presents a mixed picture across reviews. While some residents report good lawn care and reliable snow removal, others describe overgrown yards, poor entrance upkeep, and landscaping damage from mowing. A few residents note that responsiveness to requests can vary depending on how assertively concerns are raised. The 4.2-star rating across 57 reviews reflects this split: strong marks for interior maintenance and staff service, but concerns about grounds management and consistency in how renewal situations are handled.

Don't bother renting at the Kendallville location. The mowers will mow over your landscape lighting and don't give a crap about it. When they do mow, & it's not often, the high grass causes ponds of flooding. These owners do zero maintenance and raise the rent. There is no lighting in the parking lot, it's pitch black and all of the outdoor light fixtures are outdated, the doors barely lock, the flooring is in horrible condition and so are cabinets in the kitchen. I've been told from numerous residents that if you complain about anything the management will get in your face and threaten to throw you out and if anyone threatens my elderly parent I will call the BBB and hire an attorney. All I have to say about the owners of yellow retirement is be careful, family members are watching, do your job and stop taking advantage of senior citizens that live off of social security. I hate that my senior parent has to live in these conditions! I could mention many more problems with this place including that my elderly parent has a stalker that looks in the windows at night and leaves his cigarette butts all over her patio! Gross! Everyone is too scared to mention anything that goes wrong or any complaints to management for fear of getting kicked out when they have no other place to go. It's sad! Just don't rent here!

Pros: Timely maintenance.
Cons: No clubhouse for community events.
Only garbage collection, no recycling bins provided; this is not good for the community nor the environment.

I absolutely love living here. It's in a great location, clean, beautifully landscaped lawns. The neighbors I've met so far are friendly, sweet and welcoming. I feel very safe here. We have like our own little community.
