After waiting 48 long and excruciating hours, hoping, as in times past, it would ease on its own with a little symptom treatment, I had to break down and go to the ER. Diagnosis: abscess and infected salivary gland. I see other reviews on here and understand we all come into the ER, often at our very worst states, so it should be expected to see some deviation in reviews. Outcomes in the ER are so uncertain and often life changing in a negative way, they are fighting against a very real negating issue. When I went to the ER, I was not only suffering from pain as a result of the abscess and infected salivary gland, I was also mentally exhausted and depleted, without any faith in humanity, and feeling as alone as a human being can feel. No self-worth, no pride or dignity left from the struggles of life, I decided to view it as a break, a moment of respite. Based on 56 years of lived experiences, the ER staff was exceptional and made me feel heard and validated. They were empathetic and obviously saw through my immediate concerns with abscesses and infection, and were kind to me in all the right ways. I want them to know I came away from my ER experience with a little restored faith in humanity as a result. They did more than treat those immediate issues I went for and showed what true professional medical care should look like. We all need to know when we are doing things right especially in such unforgiving professions and fields.
