NEGLECTFUL, ABUSIVE, CRUEL, INEPT TREATMENT OF OUR 98-YEAR-OLD FATHER, AN ARMY VETERAN. My family is still traumatized from what Washington Square Nursing Home did to my father and us. This used to be a decent place with good care, but not anymore. It was sold off several years ago, and everything changed. Not enough help, and too many contract employees, some very bad ones. Many know nothing about the patients they care for and don't bother to read the notes. There are a few on site staff that provide good care, but they are overworked and understaffed. Patients are paying the price. The people that run this place are so cruel and uncaring to both patients and their families. God help the mentally impaired, and those without family members to speak on their behalf. My father, a veteran was in this house of horror with dementia and a broken arm. He was never a complainer, so they took full advantage of him. Matters went from bad to worse when we complained about care he was given. One day, he was left in front of a window AC unit running full blast, and a fan blowing on him from another direction. It was freezing in his room! What elderly person likes the cold? Our poor father had no blanket and was visibly shivering. He was in his 90's. They had been feeding him with the air blowing on him because the staff members, who have no regard or compassion, like it cold. They left him there. He was frequently left sitting in his room alone, without his hearing aids and partials. Bad enough to be suffering with dementia and being afraid. I happened to walk in one day while he was being fed. Once again, he was missing his partials. The woman feeding him was shoveling food in as fast as she could load it. She aspirated him and caused him to vomit. I reported her to the nurse in charge. The nurse said she had been "talked to" about this in the past, but nothing was done, and she continues to work there. Some of the food he was served was old, moldy, and burnt. We took photos, but that went nowhere. We would bring healthy foods with us when they would allow us to visit. The cruelest thing of all was when we were denied spending his last days with him. He was so very ill, and terrified of being left alone. Hospice told WS and us he was actively dying, but the director and head nurse said they didn't agree, so we were only allowed 2 hours per day to be with him when he was actively dying. They cited COVID-19 for being the reason of limited visitation, but Ohio governor DeWine lifted restrictions months before. It was our punishment for asking questions and complaining. We scrambled to remove him from that house of horrors, but that took time, and they tried to stop us. They wanted their cash cow to stay. He never regained consciousness again. We kept vigil at his side until he passed 2 days later. We reported everything to multiple agencies, but nothing was done to them. Pictures, notes, complaints and more were useless. You need to record what goes on, and now you can. Know your rights and protect your loved ones. Ohio passed Ester's Law November 2021, and it went into effect March 23, 2023, allowing family members to add surveillance cameras to patient's rooms to help prevent abuse and neglect, and for prosecuting bad nursing homes. I hope the ruthless director and the head nurse get the same care they gave my father during their last days. 2025-The Trump Administration implemented a plan to eliminate federal regulations swiftly and permanently, which includes reductions and removal of nursing home staffing and more. Protections for patients are being removed to give protections to nursing homes. The nursing home sector donated millions to his presidential campaign.
