The Villas of Hollybrook in Newton provided outstanding care and peace of mind for our family during the two years and seven months our Dad resided there. Finding the right assisted living facility was a significant challenge for my two brothers, who live in Florida and Alabama, and myself in Wisconsin. Because our Dad's wife still lived at their home in Greenup, our primary goal was to find a nearby community so she could visit easily, while ensuring a high level of trust and confidence in his care since we could not be there frequently.
The discovery was pure serendipity. While visiting from Florida, my brother stayed at the Cobblestone Hotel in Newton and noticed the Villas of Hollybrook directly across the street. He walked over without an appointment, and the Director, Leah, dropped everything to give him a tour. She spent all the time necessary to answer his questions and completely put our minds at ease, making us feel instantly comfortable with the facility.
Because we all live so far away, communication was incredibly important to us. Leah and the Head Nurse, Jenna, were excellent communicators. Whether in person, via email, or through text, they kept us constantly updated and we never felt out of the loop. They truly went above and beyond their standard roles to support us from afar; because we couldn't be local, they took total ownership of scheduling all of Dad's doctor appointments and coordinating his transportation.
There were times they went even further to protect and comfort him. During a bad snowstorm, Dad was in the ER and didn't have a ride back. Instead of letting him spend the night at the hospital, Jenna went out in the storm herself to pick him up and bring him safely back to the facility. Later on, when his wife could no longer live at home and had to move to a different care facility, the staff showed immense kindness by allowing Dad to ride along with other residents to their appointments just so he could visit her.
We also owe a special thank you to Kathrina, the physical therapist. She spent so much time with Dad, and we deeply appreciate her endless patience, especially on days when he wasn't always cooperative in doing his exercises. Beyond therapy, every single member of the staff—including the CNAs, dining room personnel, custodial staff, and hair stylist—treated our Dad with true kindness.
Throughout his entire stay, the community consistently delivered excellent care, giving our long-distance family complete reassurance that our Dad was safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. We are deeply grateful to Leah, Jenna, Katrina, and the entire team.
