Village Gardens | An RHF Community

Village Gardens is a subsidized housing community for seniors age 62 and over located in Norfolk, Virginia. The community offers 39 one-bedroom apartments, each approximately 550 square feet, with income-based rent set at approximately 30% of a resident's gross income. Funding through a HUD 202 grant, The Hampton Roads Foundation, and the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority makes this affordable housing possible.

Each apartment includes a full kitchen, bathroom with safety amenities, living room and dining area, individually controlled heat and air conditioning, and an emergency call system. The community features accessible apartments, including several more-accessible units for residents with sensory or mobility impairments. All units have a large freestanding shower and ample storage space, with an elevator providing access to all floors.

Village Gardens maintains an active community life with monthly activities including bingo, board games, pot-luck meals, guest speakers, and entertainment. A Social Service Coordinator assists residents in identifying community-based services and activities that support independent living. The building offers a coin-operated laundry center on the ground floor, trash disposal chutes on upper floors, and secure entry with intercom control and access fobs.

Residents have access to nearby public transit services that stop in front of the building, providing transportation to grocery stores, doctor appointments, department stores, and local restaurants. The community also sits next to Village Pointe, another RHF community. Parking includes a large lot for residents and additional off-street parking for guests across the street.

Village Gardens welcomes pets, including fish and birds without deposit. Small dogs (up to 25 pounds) and cats (up to 15 pounds) are permitted with a $150 refundable pet deposit and must be spayed or neutered with current vaccination documentation. A limit of one cat or dog is allowed per apartment.
