Village Cooperative of Mason City

Village Cooperative of Mason City is a housing community for active adults aged 62 and older located in northwest Mason City, Iowa. The community consists of 50 homes in one and two bedroom designs, completed in 2010 and situated conveniently near Highway 122 and shopping areas.

Each home features light and spacious layouts with a separate laundry room, storage area, and private balcony. The three-story building includes centrally located elevator access and underground heated parking with a car wash bay. Residents enjoy a maintenance-free living environment in a secure setting, with staff assistance available for tasks such as plant and mail care for traveling residents.

Community amenities include beautifully decorated shared spaces: a community room with kitchen, guest suite, club room, reading areas, outdoor planting areas, a woodworking shop, and a fitness center. The design emphasizes accessibility and ease of living to support residents remaining in their homes for years to come.

Mason City is located in North Central Iowa between Minneapolis and Des Moines and is known for its strong musical tradition as the hometown and inspiration for Meredith Wilson's Broadway musical "The Music Man." The city hosts the annual North Iowa Band Festival, a marching competition that began in 1936 and continues to draw bands from across the region.

The area is home to a rich architectural heritage, including the Rock Glen and Rock Crest National Historic district, which contains the largest collection of Frank Lloyd Wright prairie-style homes in a natural setting in the world.
