Needed emergency room visit after 2 am this week. The admitting team and nurses were absolutely professional and their humor really helped my nervousness. The attention to me as an asthma patient was the best I could ask for. As a immune compromised person with asthma and a severe virus the constant coughing made it hard for me to breath. Also, dont let the hospital decor put you off. I received professional medical treatment I know I can get at a big facility as a resident of FL with lots of major hospitals. I benefited from the time of night, yes, as less crowded so was seen quickly. Either way it's the medical expertise I received along with the necessary tests and final diagnosis from very talented nurses that is the most important point of any medical visit.

I recently visited for a laceration on my finger I couldn't get to stop bleeding. After checking in I was brought to a recliner next to the nurse's station. I waited for 5 hours before being discharged. The nurse on staff was the only helpful and courteous person there. The doctor came over after 4 hours of waiting and told me there was nothing they could do for it. Sent me house with special ointment and non-stick bandages. Received a bill for $2,150 for emergency room services and another $450 for a 30 second doctor consultation. They should implement actual patient waiting rooms for starters, and allow for a low cost, low priority charge for services like this. This was NOT medical care or service in any fashion. Will never attend here again and will be telling everyone I know about my horrible experience. Don't go to Upstate! Visit the other non-state funded hospital that actually cares about its patients, Crouse. But hey, upstate has another new hospital to build over Adams St., a parking garage to fix, and solar panels to install in sunny CNY.

My mother spent several days there or end of life/comfort care. The nursing staff was so compassionate. I cannot ask for more. I spent as many hours with my mom as I could, and they ordered me a comfort cart in the room with coffee And cookies and water. They were always there to sit and listen to me tell stories. My mother was never uncomfortable. Not for a moment Truly caring people.

I had a procedure done in the emergency room June 2025. The dr was very very nice and knowledgeable and caring. He said we can go to the OR or I can do i can make an incision right here right now if you approve and I did. My chart says complicated subcutaneous incision. He said I should follow up at surgical specialties in 2 weeks. When the time came i called and they said I didn’t have a referral. I figured I could deal with it. Come November my wound was still draining so I went back to the ER. The nurse laughed in my face when I said how concerned I was and prescribed me an antibiotic and said she would stress the need for a referral which my chart does state. The chart also said the dr was available but was told he wasn’t needed. Referral was never sent. Now it’s MARCH i called the surgical specialist and I said my wound has been draining for 9 months can I please be seen. They said no. I call the ER and beg to be seen by the dr who initially did my incision and they direct me back to surgical specialties. In what world do you get cut open and are never seen again?

I had to go to upstate community general last night and was in the emergency room for hours. They were so busy, I was on a random bed in a corner of a hallway but you know what. That was the best hospital visit I have ever had, sure it took awhile. To be expected. It's freezing outside, it's flu season. Everyone was so nice, they calmed me down and just talked while taking great care of me. I never once felt like I was not being taken care of their eyes were always looking if I was doing ok and when I was not they would come and check on me almost immediately. I could hear them speaking to other patients, the same kindness. I saw a lot of people, and every single one of them was absolutely amazing. They deserve so much more then they get. I tried to thank everyone, but if I could give them 10000 star review I would. Thank you for handling my anxiety, thank you for handling all my sorrys, thank you for doing a absolutely amazing job in a field that doesn't support you enough. Those nurses run that hospital. They are all heros. I will say the ONLY thing I didn't love was the check in kiosk. But that was ok because the lady at the receptionist desk was wonderful and very helpful. We don't need computers to take over everything
