The staff are friendly, and professional. Seems like a well coordinated, very personable team, from the front desk to meal serving staff. The physical therapy leader has a great tone of genuine interest in the residents. Everyone made it quick to feel I would be in very competent hands. Sharon Barnhart is an attentive and empathetic listener, a quality I find relatively rare and extremely important. She left me feeling that everything I said was heard and remembered.

The Emerson has a lot to offer from various activities to a variety of foods to physical therapy and nursing care. The residents and staff are so friendly and life is good here.

I love living here because the activity director Suzanne and everyone is really nice and helpful. I get to do all of my artwork and I soon will be able to do ceramics which brings me so much joy. I miss teaching so the staff is allowing me to teach watercolors, ceramics and drawing.

Edited Nov 2025
The Emerson started to go down hill just before I moved out. I felt like the new director was trying to chase me out of my apartment. She even told the aides to NOT open doors for me. I guess common courtesy goes out the door with the new director. I saw many wonderful employees quit because of Missy and many of the other residents I became friends with have multiple complaints about the new director as well. They are considering to leave the Emerson as well. The new director is going to cause the Emerson to go belly up.

My parents lived there for over 2 years. For the most part, they loved it. It wasn't until the new executive director, Missy, started that we started having issues. She was very condescending to my mother and myself. She gave misinformation to myself, to my mom, and to my dad. Luckily with me being behavior specialist, I saw right through her fake smile, her body language told me everything I needed to know about her, basically not to trust her. Also make sure you install camera so you can watch conversations she has with your loved ones so that you know exactly what's going on and to have proof later on.

The corporation that handles the Emerson was very helpful. Peter Crane was incredibly helpful with my situation and I thank him for that.

Most of the staff went above and beyond their jobs but I would like to recognize three staff members that were truly amazing. Taylor Blessing was always there for my mother. When we went in as a family to tell my mother that my father passed, we asked her to stay in the room because we knew my mother would find comfort in her. Suzanne O'Donnell stayed in contact with my father while he was dying. She was there for him in some of his darkest moments. And Nurse Marysa, her support with my mother while I was going through everything, I can not thank her enough. I knew my mom was in safe hands with her.
