My mother was briefly here in 2024 - I'm writing this review now because I just found some notes I had written about the awful conditions and treatment there. It was so bad that I had her transferred to a different facility as soon as I could - if you have a loved one staying here I recommend you do the same. Below are my notes from her brief stay there: - Kept mom in same clothes for 2 days - Nobody comes when she presses call button - My siblings and I had the same experience when we pressed the call button while visiting - Asked for someone to change our mom's depends and nobody came for 2 hours - My sister was visiting for 4 hours and nobody came to check on my mom that entire time. They drop off food and run. My sister had to help her sit up better to eat. - We noticed my mom had the same socks on Saturday from Friday – we mentioned it to the nursing supervisor and they ignored us. - Another 4 hour visit with nobody checking on her - there is no staff around.

My company provides medical equipment for Tolstoy. They have overdue bills and seem to be having financial hardships. A employee named Maribel who we were told is in charge on invoices has been avoiding our calls, emails and on the rare occasion we are able to get through to her she leads us to be believe they will pay and they do not. We have also contacted other employees and have been lied to and then ignored. They are over 13 months in debt. If they are neglecting their business vendors so poorly I could only image how their treating their patients being closed doors. We've tried every professional channel to this facility but no call backs from AP, or any department in this facility. I would strongly advise any vendor, employee, or family seeking care to think twice before trusting this facility. We provided them with credit on good faith and at this point they are taking advantage of companies like mine and the extension of credit.

My Mom has been in their care going on two years, the care team are hard working, dedicated staff and take good care of her. The entertainment, housekeeping, laundry and food services staff are also kind, hard working people. This industry as a whole has it's many challenges, especially as a 501c. Some of the other reviews here don't speak to our experience but perhaps they haven't had the unfortunate experience to observe other elder care facilities in Rockland. All I see when visiting are the staff at Tolstoy working hard to provide the best possible care to its residents.

The staff at Tolstoy is one of the most unique, extraordinary and caring group of people I've ever come across in a Nursing Home Rehab. My mom was cared for with dignity and compassion which helped her recover so wonderfully during her stay. I've been a health care provider 25 years and have seen quite the opposite in many facilities. I'm so grateful for each team's hard work and dedication to our elder population. This includes the laundry team, house keeping, Intake dept, everyone in the kitchen, the aides who work so hard, nursing staff, physical and occupational therapy and anyone else I may have forgotten to mention. Thank you all!
