The Life Enrichment Director, Kailey Garrett, and her team (Lily, Katie) and the culinary staff (Director, James Hurst) and his team, and especially Jillian, are top notch!! They were instrumental in arranging/helping me with a birthday celebration for my husband who is a resident there, in their Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) room, in this beautiful facility. I can’t thank them enough for everything they do on a DAILY basis to enrich the lives of the residents there, and they sure made this party so much easier on me!<br>My husband has been there just shy of one year. I don’t believe I have ever seen Kailey or Katie in that timeframe without a huge smile on their faces. Same with Linda (culinary team/bartender); always smiling and eager to help/do anything.<br>Lily is another person who deserves recognition; always cheery and engaging, and brings “fun” to the residents’ lives.<br>Douglas, Irma, Mary, Chloe, Briana, Fatima, and Nana among others, are so very patient and caring when he presses his call button for assistance.<br>The food that is served there is amazing; flavorful, and a nice variety of options. Servers Henry, JB, Suban and Linda are a delight. All the waitstaff are very good at remembering names.<br>The environment there is bright and cheery, clean, free of smells, beautiful areas (inside and out) for visiting and relaxing. One of their courtyards has a fire pit with comfortable chairs, and weather -permitting, in certain times of the year, they offer lunch service in one of their courtyards, and there is also a private dining room that we have reserved(free) and used on several occasions for small (up to 8) gatherings.<br>My husband gets his hair and beard trimmed, and nails cut, there.<br>Their exercise room is available 24/7, with modern equipment, weights, etc.<br>My husband and I enjoy having drinks in The Bistro, with their comfortable chairs, a fireplace, large TV, and bartender (on certain days). It is where we will often play cards (although they do have a game room), watch sporting events, entertain friends, or just sit and visit. We understand that not all assisted living facilities have such an option, and we love it!<br>As a family member, I so appreciate these individuals who have helped my husband and me tremendously with the difficult transition in moving him from home to an assisted living environment.
Our mother lived at The Wellington at Lake Manassas for the last 8 of her 90 years- she just passed away. She started on the assisted living side and moved to Inspiritis memory care due to progressing dementia. Our mother loved the Wellington and felt very comfortable there.<br>My brother lives close to the Wellington and visited often - He had consistently very positive things to say about the staff and activities that he saw while he was there (music entertainment, art, exercise). He often commented on how patient the staff are.<br>I have made many visits to the Wellington and have had frequent interactions with the staff/ and yes, they are excellent - Clara is an exceptional nurse - and Jennifer who is the activities director is incredible. I love how the staff have all residents come out for meals and activities- they work hard to keep them engaged. Jennifer and others would encourage my mom to play the piano there which she did - something she hadn’t done for many many years prior to going to the Wellington.<br>My mom could be resistant, however, once out she was always better to be around people.<br>The staff would always accommodate my requests- like to make sure my mom had a certain stuffed cat with her and to make sure she got ice cream after dinner, which she really liked.<br>The food was actually very good which is something my mom often commented on.<br>The last year of my mom’s life was very hard - her dementia had progressed and her health declined after a hospitalization. She was placed on hospice - but we were so thankful she was able to remain at Wellington with the hospice support. The hospice staff were amazing also! Together the Wellington staff and the hospice staff made our mom‘s last few months as pleasant and peaceful as possible.<br>We also very much appreciate the support of the Wellington administration who listened to our concerns all along the way- while they could not accommodate everything we requested financially, they did work with us.<br><br>The Wellington is definitely not the least expensive option- and yes, is even on the higher side - but my brother, sister, and I are very thankful that our mother was able to spend her last years there- as we felt she deserved it. The Wellington was home to her.<br><br>I know there are a lot of fake reviews out there - but I can assure you this is real. Send your family here if you want them sitting in their own urine and bowel movements for hours at a time! A great deal of the 5 star reviews are of people who don't live here, and don't have family here either. No one checks the pendent necklaces that calls for nurse assistants to make sure they all work properly. People with severe depression, or memory loss don't get checked on unless they press the button that might not even work. There is only one nurse Clara here juggling all three floors of over a hundred some people, the nurse above her is never to be seen checking on people, and the nurse assistants know that, and get away with scanning necklaces, and walking right back out the residents room, without changing them or offering them water. The nurse assistants are understaffed and don't have the help they need to help heavier weighted people get their bathroom and shower needs met in timely manner. Too many staff members have language barriers not understanding or speaking clear English. Residents in the hallways with hearing aides have to repeat themselves multiple times, and then cannot hear a clear response with hearing aides on from staff, making simple communication miserable, I can only imagine if it was an emergency.<br>A fancy looking place doesn't mean safe, or comfortable.<br>New residents are offered the service of hanging pictures on the wall for 25 dollars or more per 15 minutes it takes to do so, on top of all the other fees. The washing machine combo, as everyone here with one knows now, the machine takes 4 hours just to wash and dry one small load of laundry, and doesn't dry the clothes thoroughly. Housekeeping comes once a week for laundry and cleaning, anything before or after that will be a extra fee. To find a open machine available in the residents washing machine room is a hit or miss, you may have to check several times a day just to squeeze one load in. Other bad reviews are pushed to mingle at the bottom so they are hidden and hard to find. The miniature size provided water bottles were at least deer park good quality to hydrate the elders, now they switched them to not good tasting Pure life low quality ones.
This assisted living home looks nice; but let's be honest that isn't the main reason we send our loved ones to a assisted living home! We send our loved ones to this kind of home to be cared for, with the basic needs of life they can no longer do on their own, like showering, using the restroom, having meals, and getting cleaned up after, when we cannot be there to do it; due to work or our own health issues.<br>The Dining room team seems great, and so does housekeeping, however there is a real ongoing problem with nurse assistants here. They slam doors, goof off alot, gossip, and sit around in the nurse stations. I noticed while visiting, that residents get upset their pendants necklaces that have a button to push to call for help; many times randomly are turned off, or not working. When they are working... it can take up to 20 minutes or more sometimes to finally see a nurse assistant come help. Some of the nurse assistants walk very very slow to go help a resident, without even knowing how serious of the reason they are being called for help. A man in a wheelchair almost fell out of his wheelchair tonight, as he was being jerked around by a nurse assistant who seemed to have an attitude about taking him back upstairs from the dining room. I noticed a older gentleman with a big open wound on his forehead and bruise, and I asked if he was ok, and he said he never got sent to the hospital and blacked out after his fall, which in my opinion sounds like a concussion.He expressed he waited a very long time for a nurse assistant to finally come help him when it happened. My own loved one has had more than one incident of not getting the underweardisposable changed in over 6 hours, which can cause serious infections and pain. On top of all of this, a Housekeeper in the hallway tonight said she just changed someone's bedding tonight and cannot keep changing it due to time, and practically had to beg the nurse assistant to go change the resident's underweardisposable, being it was overfilled and spilling out. For that to occur it would mean hours of not being changed. I don't think the housekeeper should of had to explain so much to the nurse assistant who was extremely hesistant to go do her job, even after the Housekeeper did all the work of changing bedding!The nurse assistant definitely did not appear she was going to actually go change this residents underweardisposable, until the Housekeeper explained what she did, which is very concerning that a nurse assistant cared so little.<br><br>Last week a lady on the third floor sitting in front of her room at 321 was telling another resident how she was injured and fell, I saw bruises on her wrist as I walked by, and heard her say the nurse assistant demanded she get up off the floor instead of helping her or asking if she was OK , and then never got shipped out to the hospital for a xray of her injured back. Many incidents are very concerning here, and someone here is not taking the lack of empathy and of basic health care very seriously at all, and is looking the other way. Imagine a loved one having dementia and can't remember to press the button for help, can't remember why they need help a few minutes later, and no nurse assistant had a speck of care to check on them, or check their underweardisposable, or ensure they're staying hydrated.
We chose The Wellington at Lake Manassas for the assisted living needs of our family member and could not be more pleased. The facility is beautiful, clean and homey. The residents are happy, welcoming and well-cared for yet as independent as they choose to be. The food is always fresh and tasty, and there are a wide variety of activities for all interests. Most of all, the staff is amazing! They are friendly, always smiling, willing to help and truly know and care about each of the residents. The Wellington is not just a place to live, it is a vibrant community!
