My family had a terrible experience with Wartburg Nursing Home Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon while my grandmother was there. The staff seemed completely unprepared and there was little to no communication between departments. Every time we asked questions, nobody seemed to know what was going on or what they were supposed to be doing. The nurses and staff were often rude and dismissive, both in person and over the phone. Calling for updates or help was frustrating because whoever answered the phone acted annoyed and never seemed willing or able to assist. We were constantly transferred around or told conflicting information. One of the most upsetting issues was with my grandmother’s basic care. She was scheduled to have showers on Tuesdays and Fridays, yet many times those showers never happened unless I personally came into the facility and pushed the staff to do it. Family members should not have to repeatedly remind nurses and aides to provide basic hygiene care that is already scheduled. Another major issue was the response time when patients pressed the call button for help. There were multiple times where my grandmother waited close to 45 minutes for someone to come assist her. On more than one occasion, she almost ended up using the bathroom on herself because no nurse or aide responded in a reasonable amount of time. That level of neglect is unacceptable, especially in a nursing facility where patients rely on staff for basic daily needs and dignity. This was an extremely stressful experience for our family during a time when we needed support and professionalism the most. The lack of communication, poor organization, rude behavior, and failure to consistently provide proper care made this a very disappointing experience overall. I would not recommend this facility based on what we experienced.
