I took a cruise to Alaska that was arranged through the Village at Gainesville; the arranger/group leader was Paula Bowlan. (I have been on other cruises with other cruise lines, and this review is about Paula’s work, not the cruise line.)<br>Paula was a thorough organizer from beginning to end. She held several preliminary meetings to help everyone understand how the cruise would work, and how we needed to prepare. She arranged for hotels at the beginning and end of the tour. She managed to think of just about every potential glitch, and guided us through smoothly - including the trek through the airports and their security hurdles. She stayed in touch with us, as needed, throughout the cruise, to keep us aware of meeting places and times. Paula really made this trip stress free - so we could relax and enjoy the sights. I could not have been more pleased!!

The residents at the Village love the place. Why is this????? Is it the natural beauty of the ponds and trees? Is it that whenever you have a little maintenance problem like a burned out light bulb or your stove doesn't work, they fix the issue immediately; is it because they've got a fleet of neat-o buses that shuttle you around like a Chinese princess? Or is it because the food offerings are always changing -- from traditional American to Holy Cow! Maybe it's because there's a terrific library that keeps everyone reading. Or maybe it's because you can play chess with a guy who once challenged Bobby Fisher.... Maybe it's because the gym is world-class; or perhaps it's because you can rub shoulders with a guy who pioneered nuclear energy. No, I think it's because the staff is eternally, invariably friendly, obliging, helpful and understanding. You can pay more for retirement, but you'll never find more than all this.

I like that the Administration is approachable and you can talk to them at anytime with concerns. I love the many activities The Village has. if you are bored, it’s your own fault. and I love the performing arts trips and the day trips! I recommend the Village because we are very well taken care of here and our needs are met.

There are many classes of interest, evening entertainment, travel, and art classes and four restaurants to choose from. The exercise class are very good for me and i enjoy a time to meet good friends. I am where I belong.
