I live up in Canada and I had to put my Godmother, who lived in NYC on her own, into a home because she lived alone and dementia came on quickly during the COVID lockdown. The borders were closed, so I couldn’t be there in person to help. I was so fortunate a space opened at the New Jewish Home. The care was exceptional. Caretakers and nurses created a personal bond with my Godmother. They worked with me over the phone and FaceTime to make sure I stayed connected to her and to them. In fact, I had a FaceTime set to visit with her every weekend, for which I will be forever grateful for. In her last couple of weeks before she passed away, I could feel the family of women around her who grew to love her and care for her over the years. Exceptional connections I had was with Katie Wasilewska, Svetlana, and Cylvia. Thank you so much to all who cared for my Godmother since October 2020. You made a difference in her final years and helped me feel near her from up in Canada. I know she enjoyed the music, the dancing, the activities, the food and the coffee! Rather than her final years being isolated and alone in her tiny apartment, she lived in a vibrant community at the New Jewish Home with wonderful people looking out for her. I had three recent stays at the New Jewish Home, the longest being close to a month. Overall I was happy with my experience. I will touch on the areas most people would be concerned with. Cleanliness: The facility is very clean, and my room was cleaned each day and garbage unloaded periodically through the day. Food: Three meals a day and they are plentiful. The meals were good and I felt they put some thought into them and tried to make them upscale and not just institutional. Tacos, jerk chicken and a St. Patrick Day’s cookie! Most important, the staff was attentive and nice. I had PT most days and you could see the staff really cared. Rosa and Anafe were particularly wonderful for PT. Elvira was my aid during the month visit and was so helpful and made me feel comfortable when she helped me shower. There are also little touches that I enjoyed. Musicians came around once a week to sing to each patient. Care dogs also made the rounds. There is a bird aviary and a small pond with turtles and koi fish which was a peaceful setting. Even the front desk staff is friendly. Thanks to Donneil who helped me get into my car when I left the last time.

I can’t say enough about the care my sister received at The New Jewish Home. She was admitted to the nursing home with a terminal illness and was later placed in hospice care. Throughout it all, the entire team—staff, doctors, and nurses—made sure she was as comfortable and peaceful as possible every step of the way. The administration was incredibly supportive as well. They kept my family and me informed throughout the entire process and made us feel at ease during a very difficult time. When my sister eventually passed, they continued to show compassion and helped guide us through the arrangements with kindness and respect. I’m truly grateful for the care and dignity they gave my sister, and for the support they provided to our family. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of compassionate care.

I recently transferred my grandfather to The New Jewish Home (Manhattan) from another nursing facility, and the difference has been remarkable. From the moment he arrived, the staff made him feel welcome and genuinely cared for. The nurses and doctors are attentive, compassionate, and always take the time to address our questions and concerns. The rehabilitation services have also been excellent, helping him stay active and engaged in his recovery. One of the biggest improvements has been the variety of daily activities, which keep him stimulated and connected with others. What truly stands out is the ability for him to communicate comfortably in Spanish with both staff and fellow residents. This has made a huge difference in his happiness and overall well-being. Overall, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and I’m grateful to have transferred grandpa to a place where my he feels safe, supported, and truly at home. Thank you to all the staff for taking good care of him.

My stay at The New Jewish Home for rehabilitation was truly a positive and healing experience. From the beginning, I felt cared for, respected, and supported. Thank you to the nurses and CNAs, whose kindness and compassionate approach made such a difference every day. Their smiling beautiful faces and genuine desire to make residents feel happy, comfortable and safe was so reassuring and really appreciated. Also, a sincere thank you to Dr. Imran Ali for his attentive, thoughtful and overall incredible care. He is a fantastic doctor and human being! Also, a thank you to Susan, the social worker, for being so supportive and helpful throughout my stay. The physical and occupational therapists were outstanding—their encouragement and knowledge helped me regain my mobility, strength and motivated me to push myself further than I thought possible. Lovely, wonderful people! I want to acknowledge a few people who made my stay extra special at the NJH - (please forgive any spelling mistakes) CNA/Nurses - Siloame, Felicia, Dominique, Lina, Marianne, Nirupa, Coleen, Glenda, Webster, TJ, Jessica, Linda, Schalee, Olmila, Nicola, Adrien PT/OT - Amie, Lauren, Sarah, Inna, Soo, Jack, Martha, Zofia Recreational Activities - Veronica I’m deeply grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of rehabilitation. P.S. (One suggestion……The New Jewish Home has a slogan “Age Like a New Yorker……should be changed to “Grow Younger, Healthier Like a New Yorker)
