Would give 0 if it were possible. I rarely write public reviews, but what I witnessed during my visit to The Gables on Pelham has left me deeply shaken, and I feel compelled to share my experience.

My granddaughter is helping me write this because I want my concerns to be expressed clearly. My beloved mother resides in the memory care unit, and during a recent visit I witnessed what I can only describe as a heartbreaking lack of compassion and professionalism.

One resident was in obvious medical distress. She was crying out, moaning continuously, and appeared to be in significant pain. I observed more than one staff member express concern to the medication technician, Teirston, that this resident needed to be sent to the hospital. Rather than assessing the situation with urgency, she dismissed those concerns, stating that the staff “just didn’t want to deal with her.” She then returned to her cellphone, spending time on FaceTime instead of attending to the residents in her care.

Thankfully, another caregiver took the initiative to check the resident’s vital signs. After seeing the results, emergency medical services were called, and the resident was transported from the facility. When I returned the following day, she had not yet returned.

As someone who has spent a lifetime believing that education, integrity, and compassion are the foundations of quality care, I found this experience profoundly disturbing. Families entrust facilities like this with the safety and dignity of those who can no longer advocate for themselves. That trust should never be taken lightly.

After witnessing this firsthand, I no longer feel confident that my loved one is receiving the level of care she deserves. I will be exploring other memory care options where the health, safety, and well-being of residents are treated as the highest priority.

I sincerely hope the administration investigates this incident and takes meaningful steps to ensure that no family has to witness what I did.

I’m disappointed with the lack of professionalism and care shown at The Gables. My loved one is a resident there, and we are facing many challenges and issues.

My loved one called me concerned when the HR person was seen running in the hallway screaming and cursing at the recently terminated employee. This is troubling behavior overall. This is unacceptable, especially for a care facility that supports and serves vulnerable people.

Management is unprofessional, and poor management is only one of my concerns. There are many issues with the facility itself, including, but not limited to, an unclean environment with infestations of vermin, which are a danger to the residents. Staffing problems, with care techs and med techs being unsupported and short-staffed.

This is also frustrating considering past managers and relief staff made the difference when they stepped up, and management filled all of the staff positions. There was leadership and accountability under Cynethia, Natasha, Jamie, and Denedra.

Time makes me sad to see the downward management trends result in lack of care for the residents and care for the facility. Once I find a place that is better and safer, I will move my loved one immediately.

I deliver mail to them. They are always engaged in something fun like trivia or music activities. Seems like a friendly environment
