Finding the right care for a loved one is one of the hardest things a family can go through. My grandmother has lived in several other nursing homes in the area, and unfortunately, she was never truly satisfied or comfortable in those environments. However, everything changed when she moved to The Blossoms of North Little Rock.
For the first time in years, she has truly made herself at home. She’s happy, settled, and feels respected, which gives our family incredible peace of mind.
I especially want to highlight how smooth the admission process was. Moving a senior can be stressful, but Lashawn Green, the admission nurse, was absolutely wonderful. She was professional, empathetic, and went above and her way to ensure we had everything we needed. Her expertise made a world of difference during the transition.
If you are looking for a place where your loved one will be treated with dignity and care, I highly recommend The Blossoms.
Was admitted from Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. I was there for over a week before some of the staff realized I was in that room, with my name only on a thin piece of tape. I went to physical therapy twice a day. My regular nurse went on vacation, and the other nurses had staff waking me up at 4 or 5 a.m. - the staff would turn on the lights, then fill up my water glass, the nurse would check my vitals, sometimes bringing a medication I took for a thyroid deficiency, sometimes a lab tech drawing blood, and they ran out of several of my medications. They sent in a doctor who worked there part-time, another fulltime doctor who didn't comment about anything, just observed me like I was a specimen in a petri dish.
My sister and her husband brought me clothes, flowers in a vase, and snack foods. Without their visits I would have lost weight once again. The food for breakfast was sufficient to feed a child, not a grown adult woman. Sometimes when lunch was being served, they served truly great meals. I told all of them, and even wrote it down for the kitchen staff - I wasn't drinking cold coffee, and I NEVER drink tea. I was too weak to open the milk cartons. The staff that helped me the most were the ladies and guys who cleaned my room, and the CNA's who opened those milk cartons, who helped me bathe, brought a few snacks, and almost all of the CNA's were great at their jobs.
I would hear new people being admitted, I could walk unassisted after a couple of weeks, didn't use the walker all the time, a couple of the CNA's would ask the kitchen staff if I could have a grilled cheese sandwich, because several times they brought food that was unrecognizable and didn't smell right. For supper one night, they brought a tuna sandwich with beets and a cookie.
Before I left I had physical health goals to meet, and the one doctor who would visit me in my room, speaking to me as you do any other human being. I know he tried to give me the very best care and was genuinely shocked to find out how many of my medications were not re-ordered so they didn't run out of them. I insisted he use my table and chair. He told me I was getting better, but I couldn't lift heavy objects anymore, I had lost 45 pounds at home before I went into the hospital. The hospital fed me three full meals, and I would sit up in bed to eat what I could. The nursing home seemed destined to feed me less than I needed, once brought meds that weren't mine, and finally got all of my medications right just before I was discharged. They kept me longer than I needed, so I had to pay out-of-pocket for an extra day.
I enjoyed physical therapy, gaining back my balance, and talking with the CNA's and one doctor. I hope to never need a nursing home again, and if I do.... I will not return to the Blossums at North Little Rock. Too many bad memories, too much time trying to get into the door of the physical therapy room when staff members weren't there, medication mess-ups, too few doctor visits with conversations. I went to one of the prayer meetings, and my phone rang - by the time I went back, the meeting was over. They played Bingo often, there weren't enough tables and chairs to hold everyone, so I didn't play. They have planned activities for everyone. They put a schedule on the wall of each room.
Still harder to fathom was how some of the staff knew I was there, but some of them didn't know until just before I was discharged. Every person admitted has their picture taken for their charts. Guess nobody noticed my chart wasn't up-to-date? I also didn't know (at first) that they had a Director of Nursing, and she was the one responsible for ordering the meds I needed from the pharmacy. I miss the Doctor I saw, he treated me with respect and kindness, and listened to my concerns. I finally learned to go to the kitchen doorway to ask for leftovers when they served meals I liked. I didn't take pictures while there. When my sister visited, we would sit outside noticing that no one cleaned up the beautiful yard, trash was everywhere.
My experience with The Blossoms at North Little Rock has been very good. The staff is caring, professional, and always willing to answer questions. The facility is clean and welcoming, and I’ve noticed that the residents are treated with dignity and respect. The rehab team goes above and beyond to help people get back on their feet, and the nursing staff really shows compassion. I feel comfortable knowing my loved one is in good hands here.
I cannot say enough good things about this nursing home. The staff truly care about the residents, treating them with patience, kindness, and respect every single day. The facility is always clean, safe, and welcoming. My loved one has received excellent medical care, and I have peace of mind knowing they are in such good hands. It feels like a real community, not just a place to stay. I’m so grateful for the compassion and dedication shown here.
