I was gobsmacked at the disorganization of this assisted living facility. When my family walked in, the staff was standing around talking to one another, and when we asked where our loved one was they immediately became hostile for no apparent reason. We were taken down a hallway that had half the lightbulbs not working, and we saw a woman with matted hair walking the opposite direction. We assumed the woman walking down the hall was a resident and shrugged it off. When we entered our loved one’s room, we were struck by how dank and dark it was. There was expired food stacked along the walls in boxes - food he couldn’t and shouldn’t have eaten. The bathroom was dirty and had ants in it. It looked as though someone was living in the room with our loved one. The woman we assumed was a resident began pacing back and forth at our loved one’s door, but again, we thought she was a resident and let it go. Our loved one told us he was hungry and had neither breakfast nor lunch, and it was nearly 2:00. He was unable to take himself to the dining room, and they had neglected to bring him a plate. How times had that happened, I wonder. Shortly after he finished eating, the woman we had assumed was a resident came in and gave our family member medication. When we asked what it was, she became rude and dismissed our concern. Out of all the staff we saw that day, all were unnecessarily hostile except one. She was patient and kind with our loved one. The rest acted as if we were bothering them personally and didn’t care about our family member. Our family member needed a nursing home with around the clock nursing care, so how, HOW, was he allowed to be put into this place? He met none of the criteria that an assisted living requires residents meet. I called many assisted livings in the area and told them the condition of our loved one (even Sycamore Trace), and I was told by ALL OF THEM that he needed to be in a nursing home because of all the care he required. Yet, he was accepted into Sycamore Trace and swiftly went downhill after becoming a resident. I highly recommend keeping anyone you love out of this place.
