On behalf of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, we are grateful for Imani Simmons’ volunteer work in our memory care programs as a Community Ambassador for Silverado Barton Springs Memory Care Community.<br><br>I am the Director of Memory Care Programs at WHPC. Our programs provide meaningful engagement, respite, and connection for adults experiencing early to moderate memory loss and their care partners. Through activities such as art, music, exercise, reminiscence, cognitive stimulation, and small-group discussions, these programs nurture dignity, joy, and a sense of belonging.<br><br>Over the past year, Imani has been a valued volunteer for our programs. She has led “Chair Tai Chi” multiple times at each of our programs. She also presented a program about safety at our Lunch & Learn for care partners. We are grateful for her service and appreciate Silverado’s dedication to our Austin community.

Silverado has been a life-changer for our family and my father. As many families dealing with dementia and memory care know, it’s something most hospitals and care facilities really don’t understand. We learned this the hard way with the treatment my father received at hospitals and another care facility. Repeated attempts to restrain and keep my father bed ridden. No one you talked to understood how to care for someone who couldn’t communicate what was going on. They really didn’t understand dementia at all. It was very sad. That changed the day we found Silverado. At the time my dad couldn’t walk because of the weeks in bed he was forced to stay in. Pat personally drove a couple hours to visit my dad at a hospital in Temple to review his condition. Once he arrived at Silverado, the magic began to happen. Today he is happy, healthy and walking around each day with the freedom and energy he had been fully lacking at other facilities. We have been blessed to find Silverado and the amazing people who work there. Pat and Margarita have done an amazing job and we are extremely thankful to have found them.

Silverado Barton Springs is a beautiful and loving community that I had the privilege of visiting for three months. Having a background in social work, it is so refreshing to see a community that embodies social work values in its approach and is truly dedicated to helping both the individual and their family during such a difficult time. There are so many things to love about Silverado's approach to treating its residents, but at this location, I have observed that it is the staff who make it a special place to be. While experts in their role, they take the time to learn about their residents and show up for them daily with the intention to meet them where they are at. The communication amongst staff is thorough and results in everyone being on the same page and understanding the needs of residents better. Above all, there is so much respect for residents and their dignity, past experiences, and their identity. Dementia and dementia-related diseases can flip a family’s world around, but there is genuine care for people here, and I could not give it enough praise.

This is hands down the best memory care facility in the area. I have seen many facilities and I’ve never stepped foot in a place quite as special as this one. There is a calm and loving atmosphere, the residents all seem so happy and the abundance of pets is the icing on the cake. I would not send a loved one anywhere else.
