If I could assign this facility zero stars, I would. My experience has raised serious concerns regarding the quality of care and professionalism demonstrated by both the social worker, Linda, and other staff members. During a recent visit, I observed my grandmother in a highly concerning condition. She appeared to have been left unattended for an extended period, was dressed in what seemed to be a hospital gown, and was sitting in urine. When this was brought to the attention of a staff member, the response given—stating that “some people prefer to be like that”—was both inappropriate and unacceptable. Facilities entrusted with the care of vulnerable individuals have a responsibility to uphold basic standards of dignity, hygiene, and compassion. Based on this experience, I believe the level of care provided warrants immediate review. I intend to escalate this matter to the appropriate regulatory authorities, including the Board of Social Services, for further investigation. I hope this situation is addressed promptly to ensure all residents receive the care and respect they deserve.

I cannot say enough positive things about Sadie G. Mays Health & Rehabilitation Center. My family has had two loved ones receive care there, and the experience has been outstanding. My brother was admitted to Sadie G. Mays for rehabilitation and later long-term care. When he first arrived, he was in very poor condition. He was unable to walk on his own and his overall health was declining. Through their excellent rehabilitation program, physical therapy, and nutritious meals, the staff helped him regain his strength and improve tremendously. Over time, he was able to return to his baseline and walk again with the assistance of a walker. Seeing that progress meant the world to our family. What truly makes Sadie G. Mays special is the staff. They are compassionate, attentive, and genuinely care about the residents and their families. I would especially like to recognize Lena at the front desk, Ms. Middleton in Admissions, Ms. Walker the Social Worker, and Ms. Maximo in Nursing. In addition, all of the nurses, aides, housekeeping staff, and other team members work hard every day to provide excellent care. These are only a few of the wonderful people who make this facility so special. The activities and entertainment they provide for residents are extraordinary. The staff does a fantastic job making sure residents stay engaged, active, and socially connected. There is always something going on, which creates a positive and uplifting environment. The meals are also excellent and contribute to the residents’ overall health and well-being. Because of the excellent care my brother received, when my sister later needed rehabilitation and long-term care, I did not hesitate to choose Sadie G. Mays again. She also received outstanding care, and every time I visited her, she had a smile on her face. That meant everything to me as a family member. If you are considering a rehabilitation or long-term care facility for your loved one, I highly recommend Sadie G. Mays Health & Rehabilitation Center. The care, professionalism, and compassion shown by the entire team truly make a difference.

My 5 stars are for the handful of staff that made a difference. First and foremost, if you can care for your loved one, do so! No one will ever treat them as you will. Let me highlight a few positive experiences. Ms. Denise is an answered prayer! From event planning to empathy, she did it all. Mr. Mike, who runs the kitchen, is extremely kind and personable. Everyone who works at the reception desk is always top-notch and welcoming. Ms. Lena, Mr. Reggie, and a few others are just a few examples of the kind people I’ve met. The therapist, some nurses, and maybe two CNAs are also very kind. I wish their stellar service was consistent throughout the facility. Let’s talk about the million-dollar facelift. We were told that phones would be placed in each room, never happened. One time, I was on hold for over 44 minutes while driving there to see about my brother after being told he was checked out and no longer there! Improper logging. Improper check-in/ out procedures. Several offers to sign him out and they would sign him in because a pen wasn’t available. My family member suffers from early-onset dementia and has memory loss. His belongings were stolen from the facility where he can’t leave (without being signed out)These included polo shirts, Levi’s jeans, Nike Air Max shoes, two iPhones, chargers, and more. My brother was talked about in a place where residents should be the top priority, but they treated him like just another check. The social worker who talks down to residents and her staff publicly. I was encouraged by upper management to speak up, but I was afraid of the retaliatory mistreatment my brother would receive if I did. I tried to address the issue by going to the staff after I checked my brother out, but the correspondence has stopped or they probably quit working there like most end up doing. Overall, I’m sharing some of the negative experiences I’ve had to raise awareness about the issues that need to be addressed since reaching out to them personally has done nothing!

My mom has been at the facility for four years, and I must say that I’m very pleased with the love and care that she has received over the years. The staff is very warm and friendly, and I always feel welcomed during my visit. I would definitely recommend Sadie G Mays to anyone who’s looking for long term care for their love ones.

Overall, my experience was positive. I was a short term resident. My experience with the physical therapy team was stellar. The health care team was friendly, kind, and competent. The food was not good, however, my concerns were addressed. I felt that the administrators were listening and eager to make improvements. I would go back if the situation presents itself.
