About Roper St. Francis Home Health

Roper St. Francis Home Health is a home health and hospice provider based in Ladson, South Carolina, serving patients recovering from surgery, injury, and serious illness in their own homes.

Positive reviews highlight individual caregivers—one family described their physical therapist as instrumental in post-surgical recovery, enabling walking and stair climbing within weeks, while another praised their nurse Adam as "very professional and caring" with "never a problem." However, several families reported significant concerns. One described a critical incident during physical therapy when a patient showed signs of stroke but the therapist did not remain with her until emergency responders arrived. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the care my aunt received while under the supervision of Roper St. Francis Home Health during a scheduled in-home physical therapy visit. During her therapy session, my aunt suddenly became seriously ill and began exhibiting signs and symptoms consistent with a stroke. Rather than remaining with her until emergency medical personnel arrived, the physical therapist left the home before EMS arrived, leaving my aunt in the care of two frightened minors during a life-threatening medical emergency. My aunt was subsequently transported to the hospital, where physicians confirmed that she had suffered a stroke. What is equally concerning is what happened afterward. Following such a serious medical event, no one from Roper St. Francis Home Health contacted our family to check on my aunt’s condition, provide an explanation of the therapist’s actions, discuss the incident, or express any concern. There was no follow-up, no accountability, and no compassion shown after an event that could have had devastating consequences. Families place an extraordinary amount of trust in home health providers. When clinicians enter a patient’s home, they are expected to act professionally, prioritize patient safety, and remain with the patient during a medical emergency until appropriate emergency personnel assume responsibility whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so. Leaving a patient who appears to be having a stroke in the care of two minors raises serious concerns about patient safety, professional judgment, and adherence to emergency protocols. Our family deserves answers regarding what occurred, whether the therapist followed Roper St. Francis Home Health’s policies and procedures, and what steps are being taken to ensure that no other family experiences a similar situation. I respectfully request that this incident be thoroughly investigated. I also ask that the findings of the investigation be shared with our family, along with any corrective actions or policy changes that result from this review. This situation has caused our family significant distress, and we hope it will be treated with the seriousness it deserves.

Dear Roper Home Health Team, We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the care provided and for the excellent follow-up from your office at 8536 Palmetto Commerce Parkway. We value the attention and professionalism shown, and we are grateful for your efforts in supporting my husband during his recovery. My husband has a fractured pelvis, not the result of a fall. At 76, he remains highly independent and mobile, and he functions better than many people much younger than he is. He has no cognitive or memory issues and recalls information very well. Aside from the staff member who visited on 12/31 and Keith (therapist), some interactions have unfortunately left him feeling as though he is incapable simply because of his age. We understand that with a fractured pelvis, there is limited intervention beyond time and healing. However, repeated memory testing and assumptions regarding his ability to get around are unnecessary and discouraging. This type of approach does not support his recovery and is not appropriate for someone who was very active prior to this injury, including recently completing a home remodel. We respectfully request that future staff members be mindful of these factors and avoid actions or comments that might make him feel diminished or defined by his age. Support focused on physical healing and safety would be most helpful. Thank you again for your time, your care, and your continued efforts. We simply ask that staff are aware of how best to handle this situation moving forward. Sincerely, Pam & Robert

I have nothing but great accolades for Roper St. Francis at Ladsen, SC. The day after I contacted them, someone came to my home to evaluate my needs. My PT, Rachel, had me walking and climbing stairs with in a couple of weeks after I was able to use a boot after surgery on my leg. I highly recommended them for your healthcare needs!

I must admit that I was satisfied with services until Erin was promoted. Her replacement was just not a good fit. She lacked the compassion that we needed. It honestly felt like she gave up before giving things a chance. She was here for a little over a month doing weekly visits. It has really discouraged our family and has left us without home health aid. Overall Roper Home health was great. The RN however left us disappointed.

My mom has had home healthcare since she was discharged from the hospital/rehabilitation center in February. Today was her last day with Adam. We could not ask for a better nurse than Adam. It was a bittersweet day- sad to know it was his last visit and happy to know that my mom is doing much better. Adam was very professional and caring during his visits. There was never a problem with him. He listened, he answered concerns and always left with an encouraging word. We just want to thank him for ALL that he has done. May his career continue to be blessed and a blessing to others.
