We have a unique home health arrangement because my mom spends a month here in Gloucester with me and a month in Williamsburg with my sister. We have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about the home healthcare experiences our mom has received. She has had Nursing/Wound Care, Physical and Occupational Therapy following discharge from a skilled nursing facility where she resided for 6 months after a fall with a serious fracture requiring surgery. At discharge she was unable to do much and it was emphasized to me that it was unlikely she would walk again, following a stroke and then sepsis event, and would require 24/7 hands on assistance with all activities of daily living. In addition, she was suffering from sundowning & dementia symptoms that seemed to be getting worse. But we decided to TRY to keep her home with family regardless of how hard it would be. Within a month of coming home, she was able to stand with a walker, made great progress in dressing herself w/minimal assistance, and her speech/dementia symptoms were virtually non-existent. It has now been 3 months since she came to live with us. We have ALL worked hard at helping her improve but give most of the credit to everyone we have encountered. Riverside Home Health has been terrific. She has so many outstanding therapists…especially her PT folks. We love them all. They have spent a lot of time working with her twice/week. She is now walking with a walker around the house with supervision, she dresses herself, she spends a lot of time coloring and has no clear indication of dementia right now. We cannot praise Riverside Home Health in Williamsburg AND Gloucester enough. You have given Mom her dignity back and given family more time with mom. Thanks to everyone who has worked with her! We love you all.
