About River View On The Appomattox Health & Rehab Center

River View On The Appomattox Health & Rehab Center provides inpatient rehabilitation services in Hopewell, Virginia. The facility combines individualized, quality care with technical innovations to meet the unique needs of each patient and resident, whether for short-term or longer stays.

The center offers private and semi-private rooms, with semi-private rooms featuring privacy curtains for convenience. Each patient receives an individualized plan of care, with the average length of stay approximately 28 days, though duration depends on individual progress and rehab program requirements. The facility has its own team of physicians, a medical director, and contracted physicians such as podiatrists to meet patient needs.

Therapy services are provided 5 to 7 days a week and include physical therapy for strength, endurance, motor skills, and movement; occupational therapy to help with activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, and cooking; and speech therapy for swallowing and speaking issues. Therapy frequency depends on each patient's ability to function.

The facility accepts Medicare Part A coverage for skilled services, with Medicare covering the first 20 days in full when daily skilled services are needed and provided, and coinsurance applying from Day 21 onward. Many insurance policies cover inpatient rehabilitation services, and the facility advises patients to verify their coverage, including deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses, with their plan representatives.

Families are encouraged to participate in the rehabilitation process and are welcome to visit at any time convenient to the patient or resident, including during scheduled therapy sessions to observe progress.

If you love your family member, absolutely do not send them to River View on the Appomattox. My grandmother, who suffers from dementia and cannot advocate for herself, has been a resident here for over two years. In just the last 3 months alone, their negligence has resulted in her being rushed to the hospital 5 separate times. The staff consistently fails to provide the most basic, life-sustaining care. She has suffered from severe, life-threatening dehydration and preventable UTIs because the staff simply will not offer her water or change her adult diapers for hours on end. There have been days she was left slumped over and unresponsive in her wheelchair all day, and the staff never even bothered to call her emergency contact. Basic hygiene, like scheduled showers and washing her hair, is ignored for weeks at a time. The turnover is incredibly high, the aides are completely overworked, and management’s promises to do better are completely empty. We have officially filed complaints with the Virginia Department of Health and the State Ombudsman. Do not trust this facility with someone's life. UPDATE (2/26): Do not fall for the owner’s generic "Please contact us" reply below. We have had multiple formal meetings with their Regional Management and Director of Nursing where they admitted to this neglect, promised to fix it, and then did absolutely nothing. Even worse: while my grandmother is currently fighting for her life in the hospital due to their failure to provide water, River View administration actually had the audacity to call my mother today and demand $750 a day to "hold her bed." They are more concerned with extorting families for daily fees than keeping their residents alive. We are officially refusing to send her back to this dangerous facility, are clearing out her room tomorrow, and have referred this entirely to the state investigators.

Overall everything is great. Had 1 problem with a aid. I was trying to make sure you had my cell phone #. I work so if you call my house no one is there. I was talking to the nurse at the desk and this male aid stuck his nose in the conversation. He said I came in after 6pm to ask a question about what happened during the day. I told him that I worked over an hour away and came here as soon as I could. He was very rude. You called my home during that day and no one was there. I was able to give my cell number to her nurse and told her to call me when there is something I need to know. Everything else is great.
