I contacted Pine Acres to request an update regarding a nurse conducting an assessment of a resident in the facility I work for, for placement. The nurse was unavailable at the time of the call. I then requested to speak with the Administrator, Brittany, but was informed that she was also unavailable. It has now been 30 days since the initial referral. During that time, three assessment visits were scheduled; however, no nursing staff attended, and no notification was provided regarding cancellation or rescheduling. Additionally, there was no proactive follow-up from Pine Acres, and communication occurred only when I initiated contact. The resident had expressed happiness about being accepted by an assisted living facility after months of searching. Due to the repeated lack of follow-through and communication, the resident ultimately felt discouraged and unwelcome. Given the lack of communication, professionalism, and follow-through, I informed them that I will no longer pursue this referral and will not be submitting future referrals to their facility. Clear and timely communication regarding their level of interest in accepting the resident would have been appreciated, as it would have prevented unnecessary delays and avoided raising the resident’s expectations. The handling of this matter reflects poorly on their business practices and caused avoidable emotional distress for the resident.
