About LECOM - Parkside at Glenwood

Independence Court of Erie

Independence Court of Erie is a personal care community offering multiple levels of care, including our brand-new memory care neighborhood. Inside, our community has recently been fully renovated. Spa-like colors and décor make our personal care community peaceful and comfortable.

Independence Court is conveniently located at West Gore and Old French Road just 1.5 miles north of Interstate 90 in Erie, Pennsylvania. Our community is close to the VA Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, Erie Zoo, Peach Street, restaurants, the shopping mall, and the casino.

Settled in a wooded area in a residential community, each of our spacious apartment views displays beautiful outdoor scenery, including our lovely and relaxing courtyard. Our courtyard is private and located in the back of the building with wooded views. We have multiple seating areas, lovely landscaping, and shaded areas.

Life Enrichment Programming

Independence Court’s Life Enrichment program boasts many activities and local outings that give our residents a purpose every day. We don’t just do Bingo. We make sure to take care of our residents’ physical, mental, and spiritual health. For example, from mid-April through October, residents visit an arthritic swim program in a heated pool. From September through April, a professional musician offers music therapy. Chair yoga is offered twice per month. And, to help our local community, residents bake and provide cupcakes for the neighborhood art house.

Looking for more? Residents with a competitive nature compete every month with other communities in a trivia contest held at various locations around Erie. Four times a week, you can find residents out and about at ball games, picnics, concerts, museums, shopping, boat trips, and more!

Programming at Independence Court keeps us vibrant and in touch with our surrounding community. You’ll find our vibrant program inspires residents to lead fulfilling and active lives.

Dining Program

Join us for three meals a day, plus snacks! The dining experience is a great way to meet with friends and enjoy our friendly staff. Each meal is home-cooked and served in our dining room, which has large windows overlooking our beautiful landscaping.

Our restaurant-style atmosphere provides residents with a menu and a variety of choices. Meals are served by friendly and helpful staff members. Meals change every day, and we are accommodating to individual tastes, preferences, and food allergies.

Care and Services

Personal Care

At Independence Court of Erie, our focus is supporting our residents’ independence and overall wellness. Our tenured staff listens to residents and family needs and follows up to ensure their satisfaction. Many of our staff members have been with us for years, and we have consistently provided the highest quality of care for our residents.

The care that each resident receives at Independence Court is unique to his or her needs. Each resident’s activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing, bathing, and hygiene, are assessed upon move-in and regularly throughout their stay. We work with the resident, family members, and health practitioners to create the right plan of care for each person.

Care-related services include, but are not limited to:

•    Care staff at community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
•    Personal care assistance with activities of daily living
•    Medication assistance and administration
•    Mobility assistance
•    Continence maintenance
•    Weekly visits from an outside physician
•    On-site visits from the dentist, podiatrist, home health, and more

At Independence Court of Erie, we have an on-site rehabilitation gym when additional therapy is needed after an event or injury. A physician’s order is necessary, and our outside therapy group can help. This convenience can help a resident get back to their regular routine quickly.

Memory Care

Along the Journey is Priority Life Care’s memory care programming. The Along the Journey program was created for our seniors with memory impairments and to help develop strong relationships between families and caregivers. A successful transition involves supporting the resident in their new environment and being a resource for the family.

Goals of Along the Journey:

•    Create a safe and comfortable environment for residents
•    Provide consistent, well-trained caregivers specific to dementia care
•    Provide care based on residents’ abilities and needs, with respect to the individual‘s culture and preferences
•    Achieve the highest quality of life possible for residents through cueing and assistance
•    Be a resource and provide support to families, staff, and other residents

At Independence Court of Erie, we use activities to help reduce residents’ agitation, improve their moods, and encourage social interaction. Popular activities include morning coffee (hydration) and news, listening to music, spiritual programs, ice cream socials, reminiscing, trivia, and puzzles. One-on-one sensory activities may also be used to help residents relax and have a good night’s rest.

Respite Care

Residents in short-term respite care receive all of the amenities and care in our assisted living or memory care options, but for a shorter, predetermined length of stay. Respite care is for loved ones who may need a little help after a hospital or rehab stay, or when caregivers plan a family vacation or just need some time to relax and recharge. We are here for you. Call and ask us about our respite care package.

My wife has resided at Parkside/Glenwood since May 2025 to present (June 2026)..She can be demanding & difficult, but I find the care generally adequate. Alex and Tonya are especially caring, helpful and kind. Meals tend to be haphazard:: my blind wife requires a diabetic menu, but often receives items such as a potato pierogi stuffed with more potato ! I have installed a refrigerator to supplement her dietary needs. My wife reports numerous occasions when her insulin is injected a full hour before the meal is delivered ! This is intolerable ! Aside from a few very loving nurses (such as TONYA), many of the staff seem ill-prepared, incompetent and frankly rather ignorant.

The best Christmas gift I would ever have was to see my Mom so happy and content here at this facility. I thought it would never happen and she has adjusted just as the staff had assured me !!!! Joanne is calm and reassuring and never too busy for questions and assurance! She is always smiling and pleasant and makes me feel totally at ease! I could go on and on!! The nursing staff is very capable and compassionate. Jeff is very helpful and my mother thinks he is so handsome!!! Alex is wonderful! Her activities are stimulating and the interaction between the residents , here you can feel the excitement! My mom has become a bingo enthusiast at 91 She never played it before in her life ! She looks forward to the activities there is far more for her here than ever would’ve been able to happen had she been in her own home or lived with me. ! I feel very comfortable ! I can sleep at night knowing my mom is in such capable hands!! Thank you for this gift!
