My Mom was walking when she went in. The first thing they did was put her in a wheelchair, she never walked on her own again. The worst thing is I was calling to check on her (it was COVID) and no one would answer the phone. Finally someone answered the phone after 7:00 p.m at night, and I was told my Mom had died around 6:30 p.m., she was supposed to have a hospice nurse sitting with her, negative, and shift change was more important than letting me know my Mom had passed away. One more thing, my mother insisted on wearing her wedding ring and a diamond cross, instead of taking her jewelry off of her, she was sent to the hospital with it on. My Mom's jewelry was stolen off of her body. I don't know if it happened at Ollie Steele or OLOL, but the fact remains, it was stolen and there was nothing I could do about it. My poor Mom was left in a room by herself dead and her most precious jewelry was stolen right off of her body.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody. Not even to bring a dog for drop off! My experience with bringing mom here who has Alzheimer's was a nightmare. All of my fears came to light when they left my 76 yr old Mother sitting in a chair all night freezing cold! That's cruelty in my opinion because I explained when I brought her there for Respite she's always cold due to her Chemo medicine. No one cared to put her robe on her that I specifically said she likes to wear throughout the day it keeps her warm and cozy. My mom likes to walk a lot she no longer have the ability to do activities yet they forced her to sit at a table and had a problem with her constantly getting up. Definitely was a problem because I came to pick her up Sunday morning after getting a call from the night nurse stating she literally was awake all night! When I walked in she was facing the nurses station in a chair pushed up close to the table so she couldn't stand up! Didn't end there I did not give anybody permission to restrain her yet somebody decided to take her walker put the brakes on and jam it to the back of her chair so she couldn't get up and walk! The staff was very unprofessional and nonchalant about her care only pretended to be concerned when I walked up and saw her sitting at a table freezing cold restrained. Shame on you Our Lady of The Lake for having a facility open treating the elderly this way! It's no wonder your nurses and CNA's don't care about their jobs your Director of Nursing is no example for them rude and nasty cutting me off while I was trying to advise of mom's usual daily routine. This place was highly recommended to me by her Hospice provider bad referral. The bed was dropped all the way to the floor with mats down I said my mom won't be able to get up by herself to use the bathroom. No one cared it remained that way I was told aides pass by every 2hrs. I said that's not going to work for my mom she likes to walk she'll be pinned down there too long! At that point I was told no worries we'll get her aide to come by every hour from beginning to end not a good vibe! Always follow your instints. I thank God for protecting my mom that was 24hrs of hell!

I was told my husband would receive the same quality of care at Ollie Steele that he receives at home. I brought my husband( that has Alzheimer's )into the facility for a short respite care stay for me to make a trip to Fort Drum New York. He walked in on his own, joking an able to do some things for himself. A few days into my trip I received a call from someone at the facility stating he was agitated so they were going to medicated him. Before I could make it home to get him I was notified he had fallen 3 different times. I returned from my trip a day earlier than planned & arrived to pick him up a day ahead of time. Upon arriving at the facility I actually walked by my husband not recognizing him slumped over in a wheelchair at a table drooling all over himself. He was so drugged it took 3 staff workers to load him into my vehicle. Upon arriving home I realized just how drugged up he was & how much he had been neglected. He was dirty & had not been groomed and cleaned properly. It took over 3 days for the drugs the staff had administer to him to get out of his system. I would not suggest or recommend this facility to anyone for thier loved one.

My dad was admitted for skilled nursing to rehab after a broken hip. He went in awake, alert. able to communicate, read, write etc. He just needed PT to get walking. That place almost killed him. They doped him up at night so he would sleep. The didn’t bathe him. They put him to bed at 6pm, then wondered why he was up at midnight. PT allowed him to skip PT because he was tired. When we pulled him out he couldn’t speak, walk, read etc. they had made him wheelchair bound. He was moved to an assisted living place where he went to out patient rehab. Glad to say now he is back to full independent living at home utilizing a walker to get around. That place is a hell hole!! DO NOT put your family there!

I wouldn't send a dog here! Where's the ZERO star button when you need it? I visited today. My first impression there was horrible. I showed up unannounced just to tour the place to see how the rehab facility is run. My grandma was supposed to be discharged from the hospital and sent there for rehab. That place is HORRIBLE. It looked understaffed. The first person I came across was the person patients call for assistance. She didn't ask how she could help from her window. I went to the door and she didn't turn around in her chair to ask how she could help. It just looks depressing. A representative from the hospital came and gave a good speech of how the facility is run. This is ridiculous. I won't be sending my grandma her for rehab. The feel of the place is depressing. The rudeness from that 1 person was ridiculous. The other people I came across were fine but that 1 person at the window where patients call for help and that's the attitude she has with me? No thank you. She completely ignored me like I was not even there or speaking to her. She acted as if she didn't want a job.
