My dad has been at NHC rehab in Anderson SC for approx 17 hours. He wet the bed and had to lay in a wet gown and sheets and skin for who knows how long. When they DID change the bedsheet, he was left with a wet gown and no top sheet or blanket. I went to see him at 9:00 this morning and he told me what happened. He felt as if the aides were angry with him for wetting the bed. (First of all you are being PAID to help these seniors however they need it. Wet bed and all). Then he had to pee again, so I asked several aides, nurses, speech therapist and they all said they would "get somebody" or that everyone was busy. So apparently staffing is a problem. I finally spoke to the lady in the office on that wing, and she finally got help for him. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you need more staff. Or at least get them away from the nurses' station. They were all just standing around, laughing, talking, oblivious to needy patients. Several just sauntered down the hall as I watched from outside my dad's room, right under his lit call light. I was ignored like my dad was. He had to use the bathroom for 40 minutes before ANYONE did anything about it. You may say you are understaffed. Well, that is NOT my problem. That is YOUR problem. Hire enough staff, pay them enough to get qualified employees. Thats just good business. You get paid to treat these elderly patients with dignity and respect and leaving a poor 86 year old to lay in his pee-covered clothes is neither dignified NOR respectful. I have read many other reviews of NHC rehab, and overwhelmingly they state the same concerns and problems, so it appears to be a pattern with your facility. I plan to closely monitor how my father is treated while he is there. If this level of care continues, I will be contacting the CMS to see what further actions need to be taken.

If you care about your loved ones don’t put them here. The management is awful and don’t care about the quality of care your loved ones get. They will sit soaked in urine for hours at a time. Not enough staff to care for them. The staff that is there don’t care. I heard one nurse cussing at a patient and went behind the desk still cussing. Very unprofessional.

My grandmother only last 3 weeks here. Her nurse call button was taken from her numerous times, she was the only one in her room that was never cleaned up after, never taken to the bathroom and was left in her own fluids for hours. She was able to use the bathroom on her own when she left here but they couldn't accommodate that. Getting that phone call that she was not breathing last weekend was heart dropping. All I could think about was how long she laid there before anyone even checked on her or what if she tried to call for help but couldn't because she had no call button. These workers here are too stretched out between patients and half of em don't care. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY AT ALL!

Remarkably little compassion. They are surely as desensitized to humanity's suffering as they are to the malodorous fumes of their patients' urine-soaked corridors. ----- I do not mean merely to defame, but but I want to desperately urge the over-worked staff, please do not give up just because your job is hard and with very little reward. Work to make it better. In the meantime, I can't encourage people to go to you. What I've said is (though but generally) true.

I wanted to take a moment to thank the entire staff at NHC for the wonderful care my mother received in the rehabilitation section. Mom was well taken care of and was quite pleased with each an every one. The NHC leadership was also excellent in making certain my wife and I understood each step of the process. Thank you for making my mother's time at NHC great. Unfortunately, mom was unable to recover from her knee replacement surgery and infection and passed away on July 9 at Hospice of the Upstate.
